Principal's Welcome
Happy Labor Day, Grey Wolves! 🐺
We hope you're enjoying the long weekend and taking some time to relax and recharge. As we kick off this short week, we're thrilled to celebrate Spirit Week together! Be sure to check out the flyer below for all the exciting themes and activities we have planned. Let's show our school spirit and come together as a community!
CKH Focus of the Month is on Empathy:
This month, as part of our Capturing Kids' Hearts (CKH) framework, we're focusing on empathy—understanding and sharing the feelings of others. Empathy is a cornerstone of our school culture, helping us create a supportive and caring environment for everyone. We encourage you to talk with your students about empathy at home and explore ways to practice it in your daily lives. Further down in this newsletter, you'll find our CKH Newsletter, which offers tips and activities to help bring what we’re learning on campus into your home. Together, we can nurture a more empathetic, connected community.
This Week at Shoemaker High School:
Open House: We're excited to welcome you to our Open House on September 4th from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM. This is a wonderful opportunity to meet our dedicated teachers, tour the school, and learn about all the amazing things happening at Shoemaker. We look forward to seeing you there!
BOY Testing: This week, our students will be participating in Beginning-of-Year (BOY) assessments for English I, II, Algebra I, Biology, and U.S. History. These assessments help us understand where our students are and how we can best support their learning. Please encourage your students to get plenty of rest and do their best!
Home Games: Show your Grey Wolves pride by attending our home games this week! We have exciting matchups in town with volleyball and football, with freshman here at SHS and varsity playing at Searles Stadium. Let's cheer on our teams and make some noise for Shoemaker!
Cell Phone and Electronic Devices Policy: Our new cell phone policy is now in effect. We're continuing with reminders on Tuesday and Wednesday, and starting Thursday, September 5th, we'll begin enforcing consequences for having electronic devices like cell phones, smartwatches, earbuds, and headphones out during the school day from 8:00 AM to 4:15 PM. We understand that adjusting to this new policy takes time, and we appreciate your patience. As we work through the transition, our morning entry process may take a bit longer, but we're closely monitoring it to ensure breakfast is served and absences are properly cleared. By Wednesday, we expect our mornings to run more smoothly as everyone settles into the routine. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
Thank you for being a part of the Grey Wolves family. Let's make this week a great one—full of spirit, learning, and compassion!
Here's to a fabulous week! 🐾
Go Grey Wolves!

Spirit Week
After School University
Any student that needs academic support in their core courses, including Foreign Languages, can attend a tutoring session after school Monday through Thursday.
Students must be in their tutoring room by 4:30 and must conduct themselves in a manner that supports our building expectations. If your student is needing academic support, please encourage them to attend.
Important Reminders:
Tardy Policy:
Please encourage your student to arrive on time to their classes to avoid any disruptions. We’ve implemented a 30-second reminder before the tardy bell to help students get to class on time.Student IDs:
All students must have their ID visible at all times—worn around the neck, not on backpacks or around the waist. This is crucial for maintaining campus security.Early Release Students & Missed Bus to KCC/CTC:
Students with early release who choose to stay on campus must sign in and remain in the library. If your student misses the bus, they should notify the front office, and we will assist in resolving the situation. However, if the situation cannot be resolved, students must stay in the library until their next class on campus begins. Roaming the hallways is not permitted for safety reasons.Cell Phone and Electronic Devices Policy: Our new cell phone policy is now in effect. We're continuing with reminders on Tuesday and Wednesday, and starting Thursday, September 5th, we'll begin enforcing consequences for having electronic devices like cell phones, smartwatches, earbuds, and headphones out during the school day from 8:00 AM to 4:15 PM.
- Important Information for Parents: Each secondary student will be assigned a personal, secure pouch for their cell phone at the start of the school year. Students are expected to bring this pouch to school daily and return it in good condition at the end of the year.
- We understand that some parents may choose not to provide their students with cell phones or may prefer that their students not bring electronic devices to school. If your student does bring a device, they must either surrender it to the appropriate assistant principal or request a secure pouch in line with Administrative Procedure VI-EE.

As we begin this exciting new school year, I wanted to remind everyone that Shoemaker High School is a cell phone-free campus between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4:15 p.m. This means that all student devices, including smartwatches and earbuds, must be put away during these hours.
Our goal with this policy is to create a learning environment that is free from distractions and fully focused on student engagement. We believe that by minimizing these interruptions, we can help our students stay focused on their academic goals, better engage with their teachers and peers, and ultimately achieve greater success both in high school and beyond.
We understand that you may have concerns about your student being without their phone during the school day. Please rest assured that our campus is equipped with phones throughout the building, which students can access if they need to contact you. Additionally, we take the safety and well-being of our students very seriously, and we will always notify families promptly in the event of an emergency.
We appreciate your support in reinforcing this policy at home and ensuring that your student understands the importance of being fully present during the school day. If you have any questions or concerns, I encourage you to reach out to the district at phonefreeschools@killeenisd.org.
Together, we can create a positive, productive, and distraction-free learning environment for all of our students.
Thank you for your partnership, and let's make this school year the best one yet!
