In 2020, he took on a new role as Supervisor of Special Services, where he continued to serve students and families with commitment and care.
Now, with great excitement, we welcome him to Burnet Middle School as our Vice Principal. We are thrilled to have such an experienced, passionate, and student-centered leader join our team. Welcome to Burnet, Mr. Carew—we’re lucky to have you!
8th Grade Dance - Red Carpet
What a night! The 8th Grade Dance was truly an unforgettable celebration. Our students arrived dressed to impress, radiating joy, confidence, and excitement. The transformation of our gym and cafeteria into an elegant dance hall was nothing short of magical. From the shimmering balloon arch to the exclusive red carpet entrance—reserved only for our 8th-grade stars—it was clear this night was all about celebrating them.
A huge thank you goes out to all the staff, volunteers, and families who made this evening so special. Your time, creativity, and dedication turned a simple space into a glamorous event our students will cherish for years to come. It was a night filled with music, laughter, and lasting memories—one that truly honored our 8th graders as the remarkable young individuals they are.

We are thrilled to share that our 8th grade team won 1st place, showcasing exceptional literary knowledge and collaboration! Our 6th grade team earned 2nd place, and our 7th grade team finished in 4th place after a strong and spirited effort.
Special thank you to our media specialist, Mrs. Haqq-Muhammad, for her dedication and guidance in preparing our BMS teams for this competition. Her support played a vital role in our students’ success.

Esports
On Saturday May 17 the Burnet Barbarians competed in the Garden State Esports Spring Finals at Georgian Court University. Entering with the potential for two championship titles they were excited and nervous. With excellent collaborative play Kanoa Miguel and Melodi McKenzie captured the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate 2v2 title for the second year in a row over the Southern Regional Rams. Soon after Johnny Martinez and Melvin Rodriguez captured the championship for Rocket League 2v2 for the second year in a row over the Jonas Salk Roadrunners.
Drug Awareness Presentation with Dr. Ruben Lambert
On April 22 and 23, Dr. Ruben Lambert, in partnership with the Township of Union Drug Alliance, visited Burnet Middle School to deliver an impactful and timely presentation to our 7th grade students.
Dr. Lambert’s sessions focused on the dangers of prescription drug misuse and the increasing concerns surrounding opioid abuse. Through his engaging and informative approach, students gained valuable insight into the short- and long-term effects of these substances.
The presentation also emphasized the importance of making safe, informed decisions, empowering our students with knowledge and awareness that supports their overall well-being.
We extend our sincere thanks to Dr. Lambert and the Township of Union Drug Alliance for their continued partnership and commitment to student health and safety.

From Samba to Salsa, and Flamenco to Cumbia
Señora Guerra-Frazier and her Spanish students from Burnet Middle School took an unforgettable cultural field trip to Felician University in Lodi!

A Standing Ovation for Sister Act Jr.!
A round of applause to everyone who brought Sister Act Jr. to life—it was nothing short of spectacular! From the moment the curtain rose to the final bow, our audience was swept away by the incredible talent and energy on stage. The performances were powerful, the music was electric, the set was stunning—and yes, even the Pope was a showstopper!
This production was a true team effort, and we want to recognize every student, staff member, and volunteer who made it happen. From our phenomenal cast and crew to the behind-the-scenes magic of costumes, lighting, sound, and set design—your dedication and passion shined through in every scene.
Thank you for giving our school community a night to remember. Sister Act Jr. reminded us all of the joy of coming together, celebrating talent, and sharing a story that lifted our spirits and made us smile. Bravo!
From the desk of: Mrs. Lima
Seasonal allergies are here and can be unpleasant and difficult to manage.
It is up to you, parent/guardian to take care of your child’s allergies.
The nurse’s office does not dispense medication for treatment of seasonal allergies.
What can be done to minimize exposure to seasonal allergy triggers?
Have your child wash their hands and face as soon as they come into the house, so they do not rub pollen in their eyes and nose.
Have your child remove their clothes and shower when they come from school or playing outside.
Keep windows in your home and cars close.
Talk to your pediatrician or nurse practitioner about the best treatment options for your child.
Thank You, Mrs. Lima!
We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Mrs. Lima, our amazing nurse here at Burnet Middle School. Her constant dedication, compassion, and tireless efforts do not go unnoticed. Whether it’s providing care, comfort, or simply a reassuring smile, Mrs. Lima is always there for our students when they need her most.
Thank you, Mrs. Lima, for everything you do to keep our school healthy, safe, and supported. We are so lucky to have you as part of the Burnet family!

Hey there, Burnet 8th Graders!
Can you believe it? You've conquered middle school! No more navigating locker combinations or deciphering the mysteries of the cafeteria menu. You're officially moving on to the land of high school, where the classes are tougher, the hallways longer, and the vending machines... yes they have vending machines!.
Remember when you thought 6th grade was the big leagues? Look at you now—seasoned pros of the middle school game. You've mastered the art of group projects (mostly), survived pop quizzes, and even managed to keep a straight face during the attempt of some teacher jokes .
As you step into high school, brace yourselves for new adventures: late-night study sessions, school dances, and the ever-elusive perfect attendance award. But don't worry, you've got this! Just keep your sense of humor handy and your homework in your backpack (not under your bed).
We'll miss your energy, your laughter, and the way you made every day at Burnet unforgettable. But we're excited to see all the amazing things you'll accomplish. So go ahead, take high school by storm—and maybe, just maybe, remember us when you're famous.
Stay awesome,
The Burnet Middle School Team
