From our bobcat family to yours...
We asked... What has been your all time most memorable holiday moment [gift or a tradition]? Or how will you spend the holiday break this year?
My most memorable Christmas moment came when I was 5 years old and I witnessed Santa flying his sled in the night sky. We heard sleigh bells on top of our house in San Antonio. My father, brother, and I ran to the window and we could see a bright red light in the foggy distance. My father said “Look there goes Santa!” My 3 year old brother Ernesto replied “look at him go” I swear I could hear, ”Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night!” To this day it remains the one of the most magical moment I’ve ever experienced. ~Juan Cantu
This year I will be with my family fishing in Port Mansfield. ~Rolando Ramirez
My most memorable holiday moment was going to California the day after Christmas to visit my Uncle and his family with my parents. We flew out of Dallas and it was snowing. We arrived in sunny California. My cousins took me to go ice skating and we went to see the movie Titanic. It was such a long way to go, to do the things I could have done at home in Dallas. But, it was so much better in California. ~Karen Ramirez
Most memorable would be the year that we stayed in Idaho for Christmas. The snow was three feet deep and we played with the Snow Mobile and I got a Big Red Fire Engine for Christmas Had a lot of fun. ~Jose Garza
Most memorable holidays are when the Christmas present to our children has been the gift of spending time together and making memories. Most notable was Christmas in Red River, New Mexico with my parents, siblings, and their families at a cabin where my parents spent their honeymoon over 50 years ago. ~Karen Waters
My most memorable holiday moments growing up have been our family gatherings. We gathered to make homemade tamales with my older siblings, we played the Mexican chalupa game after dinner and stayed up late to open gifts. Currently mostly all my siblings live up in the Dallas area, this will be the 3rd year that I do the same with my two daughters and my grand-kids. We hope to make it into a tradition too, just like we did growing-up. ~Leticia Carrasco
My all-time most memorable holiday moment was when my husband and I tried to give our 4 kids a fun and wholesome family experience in Las Vegas (my husband was born and raised in Vegas so we usually stayed at his childhood home). This time we rented a penthouse hotel room at the Cosmopolitan Hotel where there was everything from shopping and restaurants to ice skating on the roof. One by one we all got sick from the flu and spent the whole time getting sick in the toilets. The next morning, I could not even walk down the hall. I had to be wheeled in a wheelchair through the casino floor getting looks of judgement as people thought I partied too hard and left my kids to wheel me out. When we all got back home and I was feeling down because it wasn't the Christmas I wanted, my youngest kid said "It's okay mom. Those were the fanciest toilets I've ever thrown up in." Lol!! We still talk and laugh about it to this day. Sometimes the best memories are made when things seem awful at the time. Keep smiling. Keep Loving. Merry Christmas! ~Shelly Patterson
The greatest gift I have received for Christmas is my youngest daughter Victoria Amaris. I prayed for her for so long and no one knew how terrified I was to have a 4th C-section. I went to see Father Rigo and he prayed over me and said, "I hope you feel the same joy as Mary felt when she had Jesus." Next day, I felt an immense Joy with many happy tears. ~Imelda Zuniga
My most memorable holiday moment was when we traveled to the heart of the Rockies last Christmas so my family (two daughters, daughter-in-law, and 6 grand-kids) could experience snow for Christmas. Well, we got more than we bargained for: scary, snowy, icy, mountain roads! But it was beautiful and we all have memories for a lifetime. ~Laural Bloom
Christmas is tough, we lost my Dad on 12/27/18 and every Christmas since is shrouded in grief. However, part of the spirit and tradition of Christmas is to remember our blessings and make new traditions. So I took my Dad’s lessons and this year my daughter and I listened to Neil Diamond Christmas like Dad used to, and we decorated our tree. My daughter loved it and that makes Christmas all the merrier. ~Karla Rodriguez
After my children grew up and moved out of our home. We agreed, no matter what, Christmas morning will always be at our home with a big breakfast and gift unwrapping. I am proud to say this will be our 9th year of this tradition. ~Nancy Flores
This year, I am spending the holidays with my wife and my daughter. Because of COVID-19, we are making the sacrifice and not gathering with our extended families for once, but I want to use the time to heal. I also want to reflect on how blessed we are to have each other, to have our health, our jobs, and more. There are families that do not get to get together any year because they do not have the means, live far apart, are sick and can't travel, or worse. ~Ricardo Saldivar
This year I will be with my children and grandchildren. ~Laura Gonzales
I will spend the holiday season installing the majority of the gifts that I purchased since they all have to do with a mechanical or electrical issue of one type or other. I bought and now I have to install. We plan to be in Houston, then San Antonio, and finally in Austin. ~Andres Davila
My most memorable holiday moment was our Christmas trip for the Family - was a European Vacation to Paris France over New Years Eve, Christmas in Berlin Germany and Boxing Day in London England. ~Cliff Moriarty
A few gifts do stand out from back in the day... *Growing up, my grandma would get all the kids deodorant. Who does that? *One year my parents gave us a tether-ball. Best gift ever! *One time I asked for a weed-eater. Most practical gift ever. ~Asael Ruvalcaba
