đź’Keep in Mind:
-When completing a digital excuse card, please enter ONLY the dates of the actual absence. The date of the child's return to school may be left off the excuse card.
- You must have your ID when picking a student up from the front office
- Educational Trips will be denied during the last 10 days of the school year, only five Educational Trip days are allowed per school year and they must be submitted one week prior to the absence
- Digital Excuse Cards and doctor's notes must be uploaded within 3 days of the absence
About Attendance Letters:
1st Notice Letter - This letter is generated when a student has three unlawful days on their attendance portfolio. To avoid unlawful days, always submit an excuse card for approved reasons (and medical note if necessary) within three days of an absence via the Sapphire Portal.
5-10 Day Letter - This letter is generated when a student has at least five days of excused and/or unlawful absences on their attendance portfolio. This letter is intended to be a check-in with family, as this is the point when excessive absences could begin to impact a student's learning experience.
11+ Day Letter - This letter is generated when a student has more than 11 days of excused and/or unlawful absences on their attendance portfolio. After receiving this letter, students are required to submit a medical note to support each future absence. If there is no medical note submitted via Sapphire, the absence will remain as unlawful. A meeting will also be held to come up with a plan to encourage better attendance habits.

Classes have been learning the importance of being physically active for at least 60 minutes every day. Last month, all students participated in the Kids Heart Challenge that was held in Physical Education classes. They learned and practiced different ways to jump rope and found out what great exercise jumping rope can be! We have talked about two types of exercise and how each type helps our bodies become stronger in different ways. Students shared some of their favorite AEROBIC exercises such as bike riding, karate, swimming, soccer, roller skating and basketball. Students learned that AEROBIC means “with oxygen” because it is a type of exercise that requires a continuous flow of oxygen to the large muscles that are working. Aerobic exercise elevates our heart rate, makes us sweat and increases our respiration (rate of breathing) which in turn helps to make our body muscles and heart muscle stronger. When we perform AEROBIC exercise for at least 30 minutes 3-4 times a week we become more fit and can work and play for longer periods of time. Our bodies become more fit and work more efficiently! Students also learned about ANAEROBIC Exercise. ANAEROBIC exercise involves strengthening our muscles through activities like push-ups, curl ups, planks and swinging across the monkey bars. This type of exercise makes specific muscles being used in the exercise stronger but don’t necessarily make them more physically fit. Students are realizing that exercise makes them feel good.
