LETTER FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Dolphin Families,
I hope this message finds you well and filled with the same excitement that has permeated our school halls this week! It's been another thrilling week at Denny International Middle School, and I'm delighted to share some of the highlights with you all.
First and foremost, our 7th-grade scholars showcased their talents and team spirit at the much-anticipated Field Day. It was fantastic to witness their energy and enthusiasm as they participated in various activities and bonded with their peers. Events like these not only promote physical activity but also foster a sense of camaraderie among our students.
Additionally, our 6th graders demonstrated their competitive edge in the games and relays held against our dedicated staff members. The friendly rivalry and shared laughter truly exemplified the strong bonds that exist within our school community. These moments of joy and connection remind us of the importance of building relationships beyond the classroom.
Last but certainly not least, we had the privilege of honoring our outstanding 8th-grade scholars at the Be Respectful awards ceremony. It was a momentous occasion filled with pride and recognition as we celebrated their achievements and commitment to academic excellence. Congratulations to all the recipients!
As we reflect on the past week's events, I am reminded of the incredible spirit and dedication of our staff, scholars, and families. Together, we create a vibrant and supportive learning environment where every individual is valued and encouraged to thrive.
Thank you for your continued support and partnership in nurturing the success of our students. I look forward to many more memorable moments ahead as we journey through the remainder of the school year.
Warmly,
Mary Ingraham

Denny Multicultural Night: Thursday, May 16 6:00 to 8:00
Hello Denny Family,
This year we will celebrate Multicultural Night on Thursday, May 16, 2024, from 6pm – 8pm. Our theme for Multicultural Night this year is the “Culture Fusion Feast”. Our hope for this night is that families will volunteer to cook a dish that represents their culture to share with the Denny community and with these dishes we will create our Denny International Cookbook. A dish DOES NOT have to be provided to participation in the Multicultural Night, we welcome all families to come and enjoy and build community.
International families gathering for meals from different ethnicities often embrace diverse culinary traditions, blending flavors, ingredients, and cooking techniques from various cultures. These gatherings celebrate culture exchange, fostering understanding and appreciation for each other’s backgrounds through the universal language of food. Each dish tells a story, reflecting heritage, history, and the shared bonds of humanity across borders.
We want to kindly encourage Denny families, and only if you are able, to participate in this wonderful gathering to explore the rich tapestry of global cuisine and celebrate diversity, creativity, and the interconnectedness of culinary traditions worldwide.
Below is the link for registration or use the QR code on the flyer. Please indicate if you will prepare a dish to share. Please prepare an ingredients card with the name of the dish, its origin or culture it connects to, and of course, the ingredients for the Denny International Cookbook.
Thank you.

Summer Skills Center student application is open: 8th graders can apply!
The Seattle Skills Center summer application is open now for all high school students and this year's 8th graders. Here are some details:
Skills Center Student Summer Schedule
Tuesday, July 9 to Tuesday, July 30
In-person: 10:30am to 3:00pm, Monday through Friday
Asynchronous: 1.75 hours of asynchronous work per day for each of the 16 days.
Daily in person hours: 4.5
Daily remote hours: 1.75
- Summer Skills Center classes are a great way for incoming 9th graders to get an early start on high school credit, make new friends, and explore college and career pathways well before they finish high school.
- Students earn a .5 HS CTE credit (and Family Health counts towards their HS Health class requirement, but is not open to incoming 9th graders).
- A Summer Skills Center class is a "real class" with "real grades" (I always remind students of this), so their grade goes on their high school transcript.
- Students can only miss a maximum of 3 classes.
- Transportation is not provided.
- A translated email has gone out to all 8th-11th grade families, and classes fill fast, so please share this info with your students, especially those students who you think would benefit from earning a .5 CTE credit this summer.
- We have two Intro to Maritime Vessel Operations classes, and the class aboard the schooner Adventuress has a different schedule and other requirements (see application for details)
(And we have a couple classes right next door at Chief Sealth International! Intro to Construction Trades, and Intro to Media Arts)
