Mission Statement
St. John's Lutheran School exists to educate each child in a Christ-centered environment for a life of service to God and man.
Devotion by Pastor Craig Muhlbach
As we get older, we can better understand what James was saying, “You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.” (Ja. 4:14) Time does go by quickly, especially as we age. I can’t imagine this school year at St. John’s is already beginning its fourth quarter. James is telling us that, in the span of eternity, our time on earth is rather insignificant.
In light of God’s abiding Word, it is clear, however, that God is more interested in what we do with our time than the length of time that he gives us. As God’s redeemed children, our focus shouldn’t be on asking our Father for longer lives, but, rather, we should be more interested in asking Him and ourselves the question: “What can I do with my time that will please Him and give Him the glory?”
First and foremost, God wants us to spend our time in serving and glorifying Him. In speaking to the Corinthians, Paul wrote, “So whatever you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God” (1 Cor. 10:31). We can give God glory by dedicating our daily tasks to Him. Our hands and feet can be doing the routine and mundane things, but our hearts and minds can be focused on the Lord. Paul also wrote, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men”(Col. 3:23)
As springtime is fast approaching and many of us will be out in the fields and all of us anxious to be outside doing the things we enjoy; in all that we do, God is to be part of our activities.
God bless this Lenten season and may we have a blessed spring.

Pennies for Power
Pastor Thomas Bernard is requesting help for the saints at Good Shepherd in Haiti with a project. Because Haiti is such an impoverished country, and because the infrastructure for their electrical grid is so unreliable, they are requesting assistance in purchasing solar panels, batteries, and an inverter to be installed at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and School. Pastor Bernard shared that over 50% of the people in Haiti do not have electricity. Of those who do, there are frequent brown outs and power outages. It is not uncommon for Good Shepherd to go days or weeks without power.
The school is trying to educate their students so they can break the poverty cycle. And they are using computers in their education process. Often, when the power is out, they can’t access the computers. Also, while they can have Sunday worship with or without electricity, when they have services planned during the week in the evening, no power means they often must cancel services. Pastor Bernard said that the members are already depressed with the political unrest and the economic stress, but when they can’t worship and find comfort in Christ together, the anxiety gets worse. And we know that the light of Jesus makes all the difference!
During the weeks of March 10-14 and March 24-28 we will be doing a schoolwide fundraiser called "Pennies for Power" to support the Good Shepherd church in Haiti. Please send in your pennies!
Love the Hungry (Qtr 4 Mission Project)
In May, our students will be participating in a school-wide service project where they will get hands-on experience in packing meals that will be sent all over the world in an effort to end hunger. This will be our second year supporting this mission. We are looking for sponsorships to help cover costs of the meal packing event. We are also looking for volunteers to assist on Wednesday, May 14 with packing the meals! Please contact Mrs. Lambring if interested in sponsoring this event or volunteering the day of the event. Thank you!
