The Wilmot Word: September 20, 2024
What a Week at Wilmot
What a week we have had at Wilmot! Last night Wilmot was the featured school for What's Good in 109, at the Board of Education meeting. What could be cuter than kindergarteners interviewing the Board of Education as part of their social studies unit on Navigating School. Earlier this month students interviewed me and Superintendent, Mike Simeck, and last night they shared questions with the Board to further explore their Inquiry Question: How can we make school a great place for everyone? Our students did a great job and made all of us proud to be a Wilmot Wolf! Thanks to our awesome kindergarten team, Ms. Angelbeck, Mrs. Archambault, Mrs. Krawiec, and Ms. Luksa for their support.
Another highlight of the week was our student council elections. We had 17 students run for the four elected offices. These students shared very creative campaign posters and delivered truly thoughtful speeches with ideas for fundraisers, community service and fun activities for Wilmot students. I am so proud of all of our candidates and want to thank Mrs. Salzer and Ms. Ellyin for leading our student council. Congratulations to our new officers.

The Anxious Generation - Coming Together as a Community
Join the conversation about our children's emotional well-being
We have been reading the book, The Anxious Generation, by Jonathan Haidt, which explores the significant increase in anxiety among today's youth, examining the underlying causes and societal factors contributing to this trend. The book provides practical strategies and insights for parents/guardians, educators, and mental health professionals to help young people manage anxiety and build resilience.
We are planning a parent/guardian evening on Monday, September 23 from 6:30 - 7:30 pm, to bring our Wilmot families together to discuss some of the topics introduced in the book. We will meet in the Wilmot GMA (the small gym on the south-west side of Wilmot) near the primary playground. Please enter through door 13 leading directly into the GMA.
You do not have to read the full book to join the conversation! The links below will provide you with enough information to participate in this event.

Save the Date - Parent Teacher Conferences (Sign-Up Information)
Mark your calendars! Parent-Teacher Conferences will be held on Thursday, October 24th from 1:00-4:00 pm & 5:00-8:00 pm and on Friday, October 25th from 8:30-11:30 am. All DPS109 schools will hold in-person parent-teacher conferences this year with an option to Zoom for parents/guardians who are not available for an in-person conference. Parents will sign up for a conference using Sign-Up Genius. I will share links for all teacher sign-up forms on Thursday, September 26th, at 12:00 pm (noon).
It is best practice to hold one parent conference per child, to ensure that both parents receive the same information regarding their child’s strengths and needs. Therefore, I ask that parents sign up for one joint conference per student. If this is a concern, please reach out to me directly. We look forward to seeing all of our parents during conferences. Conferences are a discussion between parents and teachers. At this time elementary conferences do not include students and therefore we ask that children not attend the parent-teacher conference.
CALENDAR ALERT: Day of school added on Monday, March 3, 2025
Due to the unexpected cancellation of school following the recent storms on August 28, 2024, DPS 109 will have to make up that day of school on Monday, March 3rd, 2025. The Board of Education just approved the calendar change last night and it has been updated on our website today. Please plan accordingly.
