Halloween Expectations
Halloween is coming! On Thursday, 10/31, Silverbrook will be running an alternate schedule to accommodate celebrations in the afternoon. Your children are allowed to dress up, but please note the following school district policies, procedures and guidelines and a student will be asked to remediate costumes that do not adhere to these.
If you are planning on a costume for school, here are some more specific guidelines that apply in this context:
Appropriateness: Dress code will be adhered to.
Safety: Costumes should not hinder mobility, vision, or pose any safety risks. Avoid costumes with sharp or pointy accessories that could cause harm.
No Weapons: Avoid costumes with realistic weapons or accessories that resemble weapons. Leave toy weapons at home.
Respectful Themes: Be considerate of cultural, racial, and religious sensitivities. Avoid costumes that perpetuate stereotypes or mock any group of people.
No Gore or Graphic Violence: Steer clear of costumes that depict graphic violence, blood, or gore.
No Masks or Full-Face Coverings
Non-Disruptive: Costumes should not disrupt the learning environment. Avoid costumes that are noisy or excessively large.
Props: Avoid bringing props that are not easily stored when not in use. Props that become a distraction will be confiscated.
Remember that Halloween is meant to be a fun and festive occasion, so choose a costume that reflects your creativity and personality while respecting being safe, respectful, responsible and ready. If you are unsure about a costume, please contact the Silverbrook office at 262-335-5500.
Safety Drills Completed
In September and October, we completed a "hold" drill, a "secure" drill, a "lockdown" drill, a "shelter" drill, three fire drills, and an emergency response drill. We also taught students a lesson on what to do if they need to evacuate the building. Practicing these drills is intended to build confidence and knowledge to enhance safety in the event that we would actually need to do one of these things. For more information on the hold, secure, lockdown, and shelter, check out this document. We will continue to do our monthly tornado drill and intermittently weave in the other types of drills as well.
Did you know?
Some of your favorite famous people of current and past times may have a hearing loss! Throughout the month of November, the Deaf/Hard of Hearing (DHH) team will share information about DHH people who are famous for all different reasons. Students should keep an eye on the slideshow at lunch to learn more every day this month. One of the famous people with hearing loss was even the President of the United States!
We are a Title 1 School
Silverbrook, along with several other schools in the district, is a title 1 school. We use our title funding to support interventions for students in math and reading. We have trained math interventionists and reading specialists to work with these students. When students are identified for those supports, we contact families and keep them updated on their student's progress. Interventionists will also be scheduling meetings with their groups to share more information about the intervention.
Lost and Found
Lost and found items will be donated the week of 11/4. If your child is missing a personal item, please have them look in the Silverbrook Lost and Found. Parents can check the lost and found before and after school. We are also having students walk around the lost and found during lunch to reclaim items that have been misplaced or are deemed missing.
Viking Voice
Viking Voice is our exciting school newspaper. Here is October's issue. Enjoy!

West Bend Schools Ski / Snowboard Club 2024-2025
Hello West Bend Parents/Guardians and Families,
My name is Laurie Aleven. I am a parent of 2 kids in the WB Schools. We as a family have enjoyed the sport of snow
skiing/snowboarding for many years and hope to introduce these life-long sports to any kids and families that might be
interested. This program originated for the West Bend Schools but is now offered to families and friends of the
surrounding areas that would like to take advantage of this awesome experience!
Just a little info about the club…

• This club is now extended to friends and family members from surrounding areas, ages 6 and up for Skiing, and 8 and up for Snowboarding.
Parents… take a chance to get involved in this sport. Age-
