Community Holiday Drive
The Grover Community Service Club (GCSG) will be sponsoring a grade-level food drive competition from November 4 to November 15th. The grade that brings in the most items wins extra recess!
Non-perishable and self-care essentials will be collected and then donated to the Mount Prospect Food Pantry. Please see the list below for items the Food Pantry currently needs.
Weather
Now that the weather is starting to change, we wanted to remind everyone of our decision making process when there is less than ideal weather.
We use this chart to help determine whether is is too hot or too cold for students to be outside. If the "Feels Like" temperature is in the red on the chart, students will be inside for arrival, physical education class, and/or recess. In the winter, that typically means the temperature + wind chill is below 10°F.
Generally, students will be outside unless there is thunder/lighting, moderate/hard rain or snow, or extreme amounts of ice. Please make sure students are dressed appropriately for the weather when they leave in the morning.
Snow
Here are some things to please keep in mind when we have snow on the ground:
- Gear: Please make sure that you send your student with hats, gloves, boots, snow pants and winter coat that they can get on and off by themselves.
- Label: Please label all clothing with your child's first and last name.
- Independence: Please help your student practice getting their gear on at home. Talk through with him/her the order to put things on (ex: gloves go on last). Please have them practice doing this task independently as there is often 1 teacher assisting up to 22 students at school.
- Regular Shoes: Students need to have a pair of shoes to change into to wear at school for the day if they wear boots to school. They will need gym shoes for P.E.
- Recess: Students need to have proper attire (snow pants, boots, hat, gloves) in order to play in the snow during recess times. Students that are not wearing adequate apparel for the snow will be blacktop only when outside.
eLearning Days
The district can may use eLearning days in the event that weather or other circumstances prevent students from learning in the building. If an eLearning day is called, students will receive their learning instructions for the day either through Seesaw (grades 1-3) or Schoology (grades 4-5).
