A Week in 4MA: How Our Schedule Works
Tuesday: Whole class lesson for 30 minutes then small group review for students having trouble. Students that understand the skill work together in groups in packet, as well as on tasks.
Wednesday: Assess students on the lesson. Students complete Zearn/Dreambox for the second lesson taking notes on the lesson before it is taught. If time, teacher introduces lesson to the class.
Thursday: Whole class lesson for 30 minutes then small group review for students having trouble. Students that understand the skill work together in groups in packet, as well as on tasks.
Friday: Review Games/Activities/Quick Assessment
Note: Depending on students' understanding, the weekly schedule will change. Depending on the need some students might also work on their math facts.

Math Practice Standards
Allows students to gain a deeper understanding of the subject material.
Involve more rigor, using more critical thinking skills.
Focus is on being able to explain how to find the answer instead of just finding the right answer.
Emphasizes depth over breadth.
Apply knowledge to real world situations.
Most of all:
Prepare students for the real world using 21st Century Skills.

Reflection
- Setting personal goals at the start of the year, as well as throughout the year.
- Constantly reflect when solving problems, completing tasks, and taking assessments.

Growing
- View mistakes as ways that we learn that help our brain grow.
- This includes giving challenging work accompanied by positive messages about mistakes.

Curiosity
- Allow students to see the beauty of mathematics and how it is in this world. This can include how snowflakes are formed or how dolphins communicate.
- Help make math come alive by asking students to see problems in different ways.
- Look at tasks as puzzles instead of just something that we have to do.

Zearn
Students will go to www.zearn.org when they receive their login information.
This will be part of their homework each night.

Homework
- Will give the opportunity for reflection and active investigation at home.
- Time will be given in class to complete homework/activities.
- Spend time reflecting on errors or confusions.
- Work towards developing a math mindset. Helping students believe that math is about thinking, sense making, big ideas, and connections-not about memorization(Boaler, 2016).
