Yearbook Distribution Information
8th graders, Yearbooks will be handed out in the SEMS circle on Tuesday, May 28th.
6th and 7th graders Yearbooks will be handed out in SEMS circle on Wednesday, May 29th at lunch.
Everyone who purchased a book will receive a ticket from your 2nd period teacher.
You will see tables set up in the SEMS circle at lunch- you may go into any line. Please be ready to show your Yearbook ticket and initial it when you receive your book. If you did not receive a yearbook ticket from your 2nd period teacher, that means you did not purchase a book. If you believe there is an error, please check at the designated table in the SEMS circle, do not go through the regular lines.
There are a few more things you need to know about distribution:
We ask that you please be patient while waiting in line, and follow directions given by staff members. When you get to the front of the line please give the Yearbook staffer your ticket. The only people waiting in lines should be those who actually purchased a book. Your friends cannot wait in line with you.
Make sure to write your name in INK on the inside cover. We also recommend that you write your name in another secret spot somewhere in the book, just in case. We are not responsible for lost or stolen books. Once you have written in it, we cannot exchange your book for any reason. We recommend monitoring where your book goes and who is signing it!
We have a limited number of overruns that we can sell after we distribute. We will not be selling any books in the SEMS circle. On Thursday, May 30th, you will be able to purchase any remaining books in the front office only, starting at 7:30am and both lunches or until we run out. It is a first come, first served basis. Books are $65 cash, Apple Pay or credit card only. Checks are no longer accepted and webstore sales have closed.
We want you all to know that the yearbook staff has worked incredibly hard on this yearbook and they deserve the proper recognition. We are very proud of all of them and we hope that you will enjoy the book. Please keep any negative comments to yourself, but feel free to offer praise for their work when you see them!
Thank you!
Mental Health Month Resources
Recent data demonstrates the scope of our youth’s mental health struggles. Watch and share these student-created videos from Youth Creating Change to deepen your understanding of what today’s youth are experiencing: Bloom, Estamos Juntos, Fingerprints, and Unfold Hope.
As you review the data and watch the videos, you may feel your own emotions rise to the surface. Review these tips on how to manage emotions (en español) and things you can say when you’re not “fine” (en español). Are you concerned about someone else? Here is some guidance (en español) on how to respond when someone tells you they’re fine but you are not convinced and local NAMI resources you may consider sharing. You can also check out the resources for helping a friend or a youth in your care from the new Never a Bother campaign, reminding us all that we are never a bother when we reach out for help.
2024-25 Updates and Important Dates
We have been discussing ways in which to help build our sense of belonging for our students here at SEMS. Some of the updates for our school year next year include:
- Our newly formed Equity Team (Staff and Students) will be developing cultural awareness and the power of language activities for our students to engage in.
- 1st Lunch will be all 6th and 7th graders and 2nd lunch will be 8th graders only. This will help with our 7th graders not being split from friends.
- Increasing our WEB welcome program for our incoming 6th grade students.
We are looking forward to a strong end of the school year, but we wanted to keep you updated on new ideas for the 24-25 school year as well! Particularly, please let your soon to be 7th graders know that they will all be at 1st lunch together with their friends.
7th Grade Immunization Requirements
California immunization law requires all students entering 7th grade to be immunized with a pertussis (whooping cough) vaccine booster (Tdap) and 2 varicella (chicken pox) vaccinations. If your student's immunization record on file with us does not show these vaccinations, you will be receiving a letter from the Health Office in May letting you know what vaccinations are missing. Proof of vaccinations are required before students are allowed to pick up their schedule or start school for the 2024-2025 school year.
Feel free to contact Mrs. Bushee in the Health Office with any questions or concerns at 760-290-2805.
