Dance!
On Friday night, October 25 we will have our school dance from 6:30 - 9:00. Tickets will be $5 dollars and they will be sold during the week of October 21 as well as at the door. Because it's so close to Halloween, students can wear their costumes to the dance. Very important - NO MASKS and NO WEAPONS. If a student has either of those, they may be asked to leave the dance with zero refund.
Also, to add to the festivities, we are working with LVHS Theatre students to make our own Haunted House! Entrance into the Haunted House will be $5 dollars a person and can be paid for at the dance.
8th Grade PSAT

Strive for 5!
Per Texas State Law, in order to receive credit for a course or grade level, a student must be in attendance 90% of the time. Absences whether excused or unexcused count towards the total.
But even more important than the law is that when your child misses school, they miss the amazing instruction that is happening and there's no way to ever truly make that up. Last year, our students missed a total of 3,320 days of instruction which equals 24,900 hours of awesome teaching that went unexperienced.
We want all of our students to be able to take advantage of as much great teaching as possible, so that's why this year we are encouraging all parents to "Strive for 5!" Strive for 5 or less missed days for your child this school year. Please do not misunderstand- if your child is sick, please, please, please keep them home. However, try to plan vacations around our school holidays so that your child can avoid missing as much instruction as possible.
Many parents don't realize that the vast majority of our funding from the state is directly tied to our daily attendance. Each student that is present each day equates to about $37 in funding. If a student is absent, that amount is lost. $37 may not seem like much, but it adds up quickly! When looking at last year's numbers, LVMS lost $122,840 in funding due to attendance. That funding could allow us to hire more teachers equating to smaller class sizes to benefit our students.
Again, if your child is sick, please keep them home. The last thing we want is for your child to be miserable here at school and to possibly cause another child to be sick. What we are trying to limit is avoidable absences.
Attendance Reminders
- The tardy bell rings at 8:40. Instruction begins immediately at this time.
- Official attendance is taken each day at 9:45. If your child is not physically present at that time, they are counted absent.
- All attendance notes should be given to your child's teacher or emailed to Terri Harkins at tharkins@lagovistaisd.net. Notes should be returned within 3 school days of the absence or appointment.
- Typically, the later in the school day you can schedule needed appointments, the better. You definitely want to avoid the 9:45 time frame if possible.

Lady Vikings Saddle The Mustangs!
The Lady Vikings played host to their 1431 rival Marble Falls this past Monday Evening.

What a win for these girls! It didn’t come easy but the 7A Lady Vikings took down the Marble Falls Mustangs in 2 sets on Monday evening. First district win in the books! The wait and the hard work proved to be successful and we are no longer the team of 3! We had a great first set as always and played hard. Mid second set we started to continue bad habits of crumbling after we were ahead. I had said that I was determined to have them work on their mental game for this competition, to push through the pressure, to overcome mistakes quickly, and to bounce back from being behind … they did! So incredibly proud of this team!!

It was a tough home game against Marble Falls, ending in a heartbreaking loss in three sets. Despite the outcome, there were standout performances. Lauren Wood led with 13 serving points, including multiple aces, while Aubrey Alves contributed 9 serving points. Cora Larkin added 6 points, Cori Davis had 3, and Gracyn Koncak chipped in with 2. On defense, Brookley Janson and Tallulah Hardy were impressive, digging the ball and keeping rallies alive. At the net, Starry Dannelley, Isabella Faz, Teagan Paz, and Victoria Porras played aggressively, showcasing their skills and determination. Though the match didn't go as hoped, the team's effort and resilience were commendable!

The Lady Vikings hope to stay unbeaten at home while getting their 3rd straight home win as they played host to the Lady Mustangs this past monday evening. It’s a nice comfortable feeling when you have the home crowd and the familiarity of your own gym!
The energy from the student section is really felt out on the court. The girls came out firing against the Mustangs Monday evening! From the outset the girls applied pressure using aggressive spot serving and persistent attacking jumping all over the Lady Mustangs. The pressure play from the Vikings allowed the girls to build up a 10 point lead that they wouldn’t relinquish in the first set. The second set however saw the girls squander an early 3 point lead to the Mustangs as the “struggles” sat in and the girls' fine play from the first set evaporated away into sloppy play that included many passing and hitting errors. Finding themselves down as many as 6 points midway through the 2nd set the Lady Vikings steeled themselves and rallied eventually tying the set at 19 points. After a couple tense back-n-forth points and the score knotted up at 22 the girls would pull away using three clutch serves from Rain Nelson to take the set and the match 25 -22. The win is the 3rd at home this season as the girls have successfully defended their home court thus far. The girls overall record is 7-2 on the season. Next up for the Lady Vikings are the Lady Bulldogs from Burnet on Wednesday evening. The Lady Vikings look to avenge an early season defeat and keep their district title hopes alive. Come out and support the girls in what will be a very fun match to watch!

Strive for 5!
In addition to missed learning opportunities, many parents also may not realize that our school's funding from the State is directly tied to daily attendance. Each day your child is present, the school receives about $37. While $37 might not seem significant on its own, it adds up quickly. Last year, the District's funding was reduced by over $700,000 due to student absences. This loss of funds impacts our ability to hire more teachers, reduce class sizes, and further enhance the learning environment for all students.
We appreciate your help in reducing avoidable absences so that your child — and all of our students — can take full advantage of the excellent instruction we offer every day.

Vaping = DAEP
HB 114 makes offenses involving the possession and/or or use of vapes a mandatory DAEP offense. School districts will now be required to place all students who are caught in possession and/or or using vapes (of any kind – not just those with drugs) into their DAEP.
Please share this with your children - it's just not worth it!
