The Game of Giving
Two weeks ago, Community Education Director Jen Dole shared a heartfelt message about the Byron Food Shelf located in the Community Education Center. This resource is a wonderful way for us to come together as a community to support those among us who might need a helping hand.
As we move through this holiday season, I’m so inspired by the generosity and kindness that our students and staff are showing. Across many of our buildings, they are finding meaningful ways to give back—not just to our Byron community but beyond as well.
One effort I’d like to highlight is the Game of Giving, led by our high school student council. Here’s what one of the council members shared: "The Game of Giving is a fundraiser for pediatric patients at the Mayo Clinic. We’re collecting board games, Legos, puzzles, and Play-Doh—NEW ITEMS ONLY. The final day to donate is December 18th. Donation boxes are located at all the schools in our district, as well as Healthy Start and Fareway Foods. If you’d prefer to make a monetary donation, checks can be made out to Byron High School and dropped off at the high school office."
This initiative isn’t just about helping those in need—it’s also about empowering our students and staff to realize the difference they can make in the world. It’s a true reflection of our shared vision here in Byron.
To all the Byron Bears who are part of this effort: thank you for leading with your hearts. Your kindness and action are what make our community so special.
Go Bears!
Dr. Mike Neubeck, Superintendent
6th Grade Genius Hour class is collecting donations for Toys For Tots at the Middle School until December 18th. The banner on the bin was created by the Design Studio poster printer.
Information From The School Board
After discussion with the Byron School Board regarding the future direction of the district, Dr. Mike Neubeck has submitted his resignation as Superintendent, effective June 30, 2025. This decision is made with a shared commitment to ensuring the stability of the district while maintaining a continued focus on our mission to serve students, staff, and the community. Dr. Neubeck’s decision provides the Byron School District with the necessary time and opportunity to hire a new superintendent.
The School Board expresses its sincere gratitude to Dr. Mike Neubeck for his leadership and significant contributions to Byron Public Schools since his appointment in July 2021. We look forward to continued collaboration as we transition into the next chapter for Byron Public Schools.

Inclement Weather Notification
Living in Minnesota, we know the snow and cold are inevitable. As winter storms or bitterly cold temperatures approach, our priority is always the safety of our students and staff. When deciding whether to hold school, we carefully consider if our buses can safely transport students. For extreme cold, we evaluate the wind and windchill to ensure everyone can travel safely.
If you ever feel it’s unsafe for your child to attend school, we understand and respect your decision. Please remember to call the school office to inform them if your child will be staying home.
This winter, Byron Schools will once again utilize E-Learning days if we need to cancel school due to inclement weather. Each school has its own schedule for these online learning days, so please look for specific instructions from your child’s school or teacher when they arise.
How We’ll Notify You:
- Notifications will be sent via email, text, and phone call.
- School closings will also be posted on all local TV stations.
- We aim to notify families by 5:45 AM, understanding that some families head out early to Project Kids. During these announcements, we’ll also share any changes to Project Kids hours.
We understand that school closings or delays can be challenging for families, and these decisions are never made lightly. We truly appreciate your flexibility and understanding as we navigate Minnesota’s unpredictable winter weather together.
Stay warm, and thank you for being part of our Byron community!
Byron Robotics Wins the Engineering Outreach Award!
On Nov 23rd, 2024, Byron Robotics competed in a Regional Scrimmage in Prior Lake. We had students try out different duties and new roles. We have a very dedicated team of students collaborating to make this team function well, and even though it was a jam-packed day of new experiences for our novice members, we placed 14th out of 36. We’re proud to say our team’s design, prototyping, and technical method during build season has granted us the Engineering Outreach award that pays homage to all our hard work.
