COMMUNITY UPDATE
Greetings CUBS-
We are excited to complete another week together. Thank you to our wonderful PTO for helping us to create a wonderful event. We also enjoyed so many special visitors in our building on Thursday, April 25th for TAKE YOUR CHILD TO WORK DAY. What a special event. Be sure to send in any/all pictures of your CUBS as they ventured out into the workplace with their families; what a unique experience for all. Lastly, we would like to take this time to formally welcome Ms. Emma Evans as our newest 6th grade teacher, who will be the long-term sub in place of Mrs. Barg for the end of the year. Please see her welcomem letter below. WELCOME TO COLLINS!
MSTEP TESTING CONTINUES NEXT WEEK!
We will continue our testing with 5th grade SCIENCE on Monday, 4th grade MATH on Tuesday, and 3rd grade Math on THURSDAY. Please be sure the computers are fully charged, they are logged out of TEAMS, and all computers have been updated. Thank you!
RECESS/PLAYGROUND UPDATES:
As Spring continues to bring us wonderful weather, a few important reminders need to be shared with the community. At this time, safety is always our number one priority. If the weather permits, we always try to experience outdoor recess. Please see the reminders below:
- As the MSTEP continues, we will have students play on the grass only during those days, so as to prevent further noise interference during testing times.
- BLACKTOP ONLY: If the fields are too muddy or wet (unsafe to play), we will call for BLACKTOP ONLY. This means students are able to walk around the blacktop and enjoy the outdoors safely. Due to the high volume of students on the blacktop surfaces, sports are not allowed during these days.
- COMPETITIVE SPORTS: We so enjoy watching all of our CUBS demonstrate their passion for all things sports related! However, recently, our Soccer games have become a bit too physical and competitive in nature, for certain grade levels. Sometime their passionate feelings will spill over into the classrooms and disrupt learning instructional minutes. Additionally, students have been reminded not to slide tackle, use hands, or get too physical. In addition to lack of human resources to referee a school game properly, soccer for certain grades, may be placed on temporary breaks. We love their passion but again, safety is always our number one priority. Thank you!
COLOGNES AND PERFUMES:
As a reminder, colognes and perfumes should not be used in the school setting. Although our school has wonderfully updated ventilation systems, due to the numerous amounts of allergens known and unknown, perfumes and colognes should not be brought to school, but left at home. Thank you for your help with this matter.
Wishing you all a lovely weekend.
Warm regards,
Principal Ciacchella

SCHOOL SAFETY UPDATE
Safety remains a priority for our school. Collins Elementary is once again providing training to our students on our safety protocols. The protocols identify actions that students may be asked to take in the event of a potential incident: hold, secure, lockdown, evacuate and shelter.
The training is provided through a short, animated video. In the video, the teacher – Mrs. Appleton – and her students walk through the different responses in a very relaxed and engaging way for younger children. The script was written by our staff.
The protocols will continue to be part of the training while practicing our regular school safety drills, such as fire drills, security drills, tornado drills, evacuation procedures, etc.)
The video is available for you to review at this link: UCS School Safety: Standard Response Protocol - Elementary - YouTube If you have any questions, please contact our office.
