Hawk Family,
I would like to congratulate our Hays Hawk Varsity Guard team for an outstanding competition year. Our Varsity Guard placed 23rd out of 114 teams in Dayton Ohio. Well done! We are so proud of you all!
Attention 9th graders and families, there is a requirement starting with your graduating class (2027) in which 40 hours of Volunteer/Service hours must be acquired during high school (cumulation of 4 years) as part of your graduation requirements. Students can submit documentation/verification through SchooLinks. Additionally, any current sophomore, junior, or senior can upload and track volunteer hours in SchooLinks. Please see the link below.
This week also kicks off STAAR testing for students in English I and English II. Students please get a good night's rest Monday and Wednesday evening and bring a drink and snacks if you like. Good luck! Please see below for all our STAAR testing dates.
This Saturday April 20th is our Hays High School Junior and Senior Prom. Our prom is being held at the Hyatt Regency in Austin TX. Students please be safe and make good choices. We are looking forward to a beautiful event and lovely evening.

EOC (STAAR) Testing starts this week!
Attention 9th Graders - Class of 2027
Required 40 Volunteer Hours
Students who entered 9th grade in 2023 are required to complete 40 hours of Volunteer/Service hours during high school as part of their graduation requirements. Students can submit documentation/verification through SchooLinks. Additionally, any current sophomore, junior, or senior can upload and track volunteer hours in SchooLinks.

90% Attendance Rule
While we understand and are empathetic to circumstances out of your control, there are attendance laws that all schools must follow.
In addition to compulsory attendance law, districts are required to enforce the 90 percent rule, which states that students in grades K-12 must attend class for 90 percent of the time it is offered to receive credit or a final grade. The 90 percent rule applies to most absences, including excused absences. If the student doesn’t meet this requirement, an attendance committee may grant the student credit or a final grade, depending on the circumstances.

PROM Ticket Sales Timeline
Week 1(3-18-24): Prom tickets will go on sale at $85 to HHS Seniors ONLY (no guest) during the first two days of the sale.
**Payment can be made through RevTrac account or cash.**
Sales are restricted to HHS Juniors and Seniors during days 3, and 4 of the sale.
Week 2 (3-25-24): Open up to all grades and non-student guests for the remainder of the sale.
Tickets will be sold until the published deadline (3-29-24) or until the capacity of the venue has been met, whichever comes first.
Week 3 (4-1-24): Late tickets will be sold at $95.

CONGRATULATIONS to our Hawk Color Guard who placed 23rd at Nationals!
The Hays Varsity closes out their competitive season ranked 23rd out of 114 competing teams.
This was the guards first trip to World Championships and they have had a fantastic season!!
We are so proud of them all!!!

Our Hawks defeating Cedar Park 10-0 and Leander Rouse 3-1 this week! The team takes on Liberty Hill and Lehman to bring the district season to a close!
The team celebrated their 2024 Seniors at their last home game Friday night!

District Amended Dress Code
Dress and Grooming (All Grade Levels)
Philosophy
The district’s dress code teaches grooming and hygiene, prevents disruption, and minimizes safety hazards. Students and parents may determine a student’s personal dress and grooming standards, provided that they comply with district and campus expectations. The district’s dress code is established to teach grooming and hygiene, prevent disruption and minimize safety-hazards. Students should be dressed and groomed in a manner that is clean and neat and that will not be a health or safety-hazard to themselves or others. The district prohibits any clothing, grooming, or display of images that cause, or in the principal or designee’s judgment may reasonably be predicted to cause, disruption of or interference with school activities. For dress code interpretation and enforcement, the campus Principal, or designee, shall be responsible.
- All pants/shorts/skirts/skorts should be worn at the waist to avoid “sagging/bagging.”
- Tight fitting pants, such as (tights, spandex, bicycle pants, leggings) should be worn with a shirt that covers the stomach.
- Fashionable pants featuring minimal holes and frays can be worn if it does not reveal the undergarment or skin above mid-thigh.
- Shorts, skirts and/or skorts are appropriate to wear if they do not reveal the buttocks area.
- Shirts should not be see-through or transparent, reveal excessive cleavage, or show the stomach/back area.
- Hats may be worn outside the building to prevent facial sun exposure. Wearing a hat inside the building may be considered based on individual circumstances that may include medical and/or other factors. Documentation will be required to support exceptions.
- Sweatshirts and/or shirts with hoodies may be worn if the hoodie is not worn over the head inside the building.
- SmartTags/Student IDs are part of the dress code. Students are expected to wear their ID every day around their neck.

Student Pick Up Process
Student Self Checkout Request / Questions Regarding an Absence
- For self-checkout requests, please ensure your request is sent to us at least 24 hours in advance or the morning of the request, by 1st/2nd period. A student can only self-check out if they have a valid HHS parking permit and the parent/guardian must include a copy of their driver's license. (This is new this year)
- If you have any questions regarding your student being counted absent for a class period, please contact your student’s teacher for that class period. The teacher will either forward a correction to the attendance office or explain why your student was not in class.
- The cut-off time for picking your student up daily is 4:00 pm.

Policy for Checking A Student Out Of Hays High School
All adults who come to Hays High School to check a student out of school must do so with a Texas ID (driver's license/ID card). This is to ensure the safety and protection of all our students.
Please inform everyone on your child's pick up list that they must come to Hays with their Texas ID. (driver's license/ID card)

District Cell Phone and Earbud Policy
If a student's phone is confiscated, it will be returned to the student at the end of the day.
Students at Hays HS will be allowed to utilize their phones and earbuds during their lunch.
All Students are required to wear ID's
If a student needs an ID they need to go to the Assistant Principal's office.
Hays HS closed to Meal Delivery Services
Parents may still bring outside food for their children if they plan to deliver the meals directly to their children during the child’s designated lunch period. All guests are required to follow existing safety protocols and check in with an ID at the front office.
1. Parents/Guardians must Raptor in with their ID.
2. Parent then hand the food to their student.
3. Parents may eat with student here on campus in the foyer.
Hays High School 23-24 Bell Schedule
Doors open at 8:30 am
New start and end time. The district decided to adjust start and end times for transportation to begin and end their routes in a timely manner.
Hays High School begins school at 8:55 am. and ends at 4:25 pm.
