The following email was sent to HS students on April 4:

Parking in the South Gravel Lot continues to be an issue.

If there is ANY issue with parking after lunch today (April 4, 2025) or afterwards, the South Gravel Lot will be open to SCCC drivers and school vehicles ONLY. Everyone else will have to park off campus or off of Morgan Street, past the ECC.

• Oversized trucks park on the West side, along the back side of the Maintenance Shop & Weight Room.

• Other vehicles may park in front of the guard rail on the East side.

• No one should be parked in front of/behind another vehicle

• No one should be parked along the North slope to the alley entrance.

• When the lot is full, go to the paved parking area off of Morgan Street.

• You can get in the building via the Breezeway buzzer if it’s after the doors are locked.

No changes to HS Rules & Expectations, but let's recap a few:

• Students should not be sitting on the floor during class.
• No student phone use. See the handbook for violations.
• No eating during class.
• Students are not to line up at the door prior to the bell.

Any student (or adult) interested in umpiring Summer baseball or softball with/for the Optimist Club is encouraged to talk to Mr. Albert Foster. Students, please email Mr. Foster (afoster@slaterschools.net) to find a good time to talk to him.

The Spring brings fantastic opportunities to our students - things like Track, Scholar Bowl, FFA, FBLA, SkillsUSA (SCCC), Baseball, Senior Trip, and MORE will take students out of the classroom for a variety of events.

Students, it is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to talk to your teachers BEFORE you will be gone from the classroom to make them aware. Your makeup work is also YOUR responsibility. You need to request it from your classroom teacher before the date(s) you will be gone and follow up when you return.

You may park in the gravel lot, or in a marked/paved parking spot off of Morgan Street. (You may have to park in front of - or even past the Early Childhood Building.)

** The parking in the gravel lot behind the Fitness Center and Maintenance building will be for LARGE /OVERSIZED TRUCKS ONLY. **

You may not park in the grass or block any other car or parking spots in the gravel.

A repeated offense will result in a referral and possible loss of parking privileges.

Spring semester has officially begun and scholarships, workforce opportunities and more have started to come in more frequently! Find updated applications on the Counseling website throughout the semester, noting deadlines and materials needed along the way. Several scholarships are posted (including ones for the Class of 2026 and 2028!). Good luck!

The Handbook Highlight is a recap of a handbook policy or entry that our Students/Adults need to be aware of. If I'm taking the time to include it, it's something to pay attention to - either because I'm seeing that people aren't clear on it, people aren't complying with it, or I'm about to crack down on it.

HS Promotion (Board Policy IKE): Class Standing

The following is included for quick reference of graduation requirements and a listing of courses offered at SHS. Students must earn 25 designated credits to graduate from SHS. Students must also meet other obligations such as attendance, discipline guidelines, and debts prior to being eligible for graduation. Credits for students transferring from a school that is on block scheduling are converted to a seven-hour schedule.

Grade level or class designations are based on the following criteria:

Freshman Class (Grade 9) Completion of the 8th grade and promoted by the sending school.

Sophomore Class (Grade 10) Students must have earned 6 credits as a Freshman. If 6 credits or more are not earned, the student will be in jeopardy of not graduating with their peers.

Junior Class (Grade 11) Students must have accumulated 12 credits by the end of the Sophomore year. If 12 credits or more are not earned, the student will be in jeopardy of not graduating with their peers.

Senior Class (Grade 12) Students must have accumulated 18 credits by the end of their Junior year. If 18 or more credits are not earned, the student will be in jeopardy of not graduating with their peers.

**Board Policy IKE Update: **

For the purposes of class standing, students at Slater High School will be assigned class status based on the number of credits earned as of the first day of school for each school year.

Sophomores. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .6 credits

ATTENDANCE MEASURES
The following measures may be utilized throughout the school year: reminder letters/emails, hotline call(s) may be placed, outside agencies (law enforcement, juvenile office) may be contacted.

1. Students whose cumulative attendance falls between 80-90% as of May 1st will be required to attend one week of summer school. Students who fail to attend will serve this time in transition at the beginning of the following school year.

2. Students whose cumulative attendance falls below 80% as of May 1st will be required to attend two weeks of summer school. Students who fail to attend will serve this time in transition at the beginning of the following school year.

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS
Students must meet all district graduation requirements per BOE policy IKF to graduate. Graduation requirements and grading scales for a student with a disability(ies) may be determined according to the student's Individualized Education Plan (IEP).

Participation in the commencement ceremony is a privilege and not a right. Students must be in good standing and have no outstanding balance on school accounts to participate in graduation or promotion ceremonies.

On September 20, I informed the HS student body that due to issues with students wearing hats in the building during the school day, hats are not to be IN the building during the school day.

Hats should be left in vehicles or lockers. They can be left in the HS office if you need a place, but if It's on a student during the day, it will be sent to the HS office...with a referral.

If you know that you won't be at school on a certain day for an appointment, meeting, etc. - besides telling your teachers (which is great!) - please let Ms. Mindy know.

Please note the policy for Unsportsmanlike Actions at an extra-curricular activity:

1. Administrator Warning

2. Minimum of 1 week, up to and including 365 day suspension from all District extracurricular events

3. 365 day suspension from all District extracurricular activities

Due to liability concerns from our insurance company, pets are not permitted on school property, including the Sports Complex.

This excludes service animals and classroom/curricular animals, pre approved by a Building Principal.

Students learned in the first week of school that they must be in good standing to participate in extracurricular events/activities. (This includes attending those events as a spectator.)

Students must be in attendance at school for four consecutive hours on the day of the event to be able to play in or attend an extracurricular event/activity.

• The van leaves at 7:15 am
• If the temperature/weather results in a school cancelation or late start for Slater HS, SCCC students will NOT travel, even if Marshall is in session.
• If Slater is in session, but Marshall is not, SCCC students will report to Slater HS at or before 10:45 am.
