Overview
The Grief and Loss Workshop is designed to provide parents with the tools and knowledge to
support their children through grief. Parents will gain insight into the grieving process, learn
to communicate with empathy, handle difficult conversations with care, and explore practical
activities and resources to help their children navigate and process their feelings. The workshop
includes hands-on and tangible activities to enhance learning and equip parents with practical,
actionable strategies.
What Are Some Grief Experiences?
Children and parents can experience grief in a wide range of situations, often related to significant losses or life changes. Some common situations where grief might be experienced include:
- Death of a Loved One
- Divorce or Separation
- Moving or Relocation
- Serious Illness
- Loss of a Pregnancy or Infant
- Loss of a Friend or Peer
- Loss of Stability or Security
- Estrangement or Alienation
- Adoption or Foster Care Transitions
- Major Life Changes
Presenters
Shalenna Tareen
Shaleena Tareen holds a B. A. in Early Childhood Education with 25 years of experience in the field. She excels in managing educational institutions, mentoring teachers, and partnering with parents on positive parenting. As the founder and president of Childhood Matters, a Ventura-based nonprofit supporting children's and youth mental health, Shaleena advocates for mental wellness. She is also the author of The Learning Steps, a book on growth mindset for
children.
Amelia Mora-Mars
Amelia Mora Mars is a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist based in Westlake Village, California, and the Childhood Matters Board Chair. She is a dedicated mother of six daughters and four sons and a re-mothering coach for women raised by emotionally unavailable mothers. She is passionate about helping clients heal from trauma, depression, anxiety, and other mental health challenges.
Abeera Tareen
Abeera Tareen is a Registered Associate Marriage and Family Therapist. She obtained her M.A. in Clinical Psychology with an Emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy from Pepperdine.
University. Abeera is currently seeing clients at the Diagnostic and Counseling Center, a private practice in Agoura Hills. Additionally, Abeera is an Adjunct Professor at Pepperdine University.
