August 2021 WELCOME BACK TO SCHOOL
PRINCIPAL MARES SPECIAL MESSAGES

- No new admissions or transfers into or out of Virtual Academy
The WCPSS Virtual Academy is at full capacity for most grade levels for the 2021-22 school year. Only those students who meet very specific criteria for extenuating circumstances can be granted movement into the Virtual Academy, and then only if capacity allows at individual schools or in individual classes. While we know that family situations change, we can no longer allow new admissions or transfers for several reasons. Classes are already in session for roughly one-third of our schools (year-round calendars for both in-person and Virtual Academy, plus modified and early college calendars), and we are fewer than 10 school days away from all students reporting to class.

The following message was sent the afternoon of Monday, Aug. 2 to juniors and seniors currently registered for bus service for the 2021-22 school year: This is a message for families of high school juniors and seniors assigned to yellow school buses. As WCPSS Transportation finalizes school bus routes for students, we need to hear from you if your student does not intend to ride the bus this year. If your student is not going to ride the bus, please let us know at www.wcpss.net/declinebus. It takes less than a minute and all you need to have is your student’s school ID.

THE THREE W'S

The NC Department of Health and Human Services is asking people to remember these three things as we stay strong and continue to flatten the curve and slow the spread of COVID-19. If you leave home, practice your Ws: Wear, Wait, Wash
- Wear a cloth face covering if you will be with other people
- Wait 6 feet apart. Avoid close contact.
- Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds or use hand sanitizer.
Help protect your family and neighbors from COVID-19.
