Exciting New Project: Deaf Children Learn to DJ with Deaf Rave
We are excited to announce a fantastic new project for our deaf students, in collaboration with Deaf Rave, an organisation dedicated to empowering young deaf people through music and DJing. This project offers students a unique opportunity to explore the world of DJing and music production using state-of-the-art technology designed specifically for deaf people.
Throughout the project, students from our school, alongside deaf children from Selwyn Primary School, will learn key DJing skills such as using DJ equipment, mixing tracks, and creating their own music sets. They will experience music in a completely new way, through vibrations, allowing them to feel the rhythm and energy of the beats. The sessions will also cover sound manipulation, beatmatching, and live performance, providing a hands-on experience where students can express their creativity and develop their musical talents.
The experienced Deaf Rave instructors, who are deaf themselves, will guide students in using technology that enables them to feel and interact with music in ways that are tailored to their needs. This project is not just about learning DJing techniques—it’s about fostering self-expression, teamwork, and a sense of community while having fun and building confidence.
We are thrilled to see our students, together with those from Selwyn Primary School, discover a new world of music through vibrations and cutting-edge technology. We look forward to seeing them develop skills that will empower them in both music and life. Stay tuned for updates on this incredible journey!
Lister Closed for Staff Development
A reminder that Lister is closed on Friday 15th November for a staff development day. Teachers and support staff will be attending numerous workshops which will improve their ability to teach your child. Such days are important to deliver our vision of a world class education for the children of Newham. As part of the NCL Trust, we will be joined by colleagues from all of the trust schools who serve the children of Newham. You should still expect your children to be busy improving themselves - work will be set on Google Classroom and of course, they could spend a good few hours reading a wonderful book from our library. Year 10 and 11 students should be preparing for their GCSE exams. For year 11 students, AC2 exams are only a few days from starting. Success comes from lots of revision!
Girls Football
Year 7 and 8 girls played their first fixture of the year against Langdon and played brilliantly!
Paige was an excellent goal keeper making many saves throughout the game. Jeldi (our captain) was the player of the match making superb tackles and directing the team. Other notable performances were Azeezah for loading up the pressure on every player and Kimara and Niyah for their excellent defending.
Well done to all involved!
Anti Bullying Week at Lister
Anti-Bullying Week is a crucial event at Lister Community School, as it emphasizes the importance of fostering a safe and inclusive environment where every student feels valued and respected. Bullying can have devastating consequences on a child's well-being, affecting their mental health, academic performance, and overall sense of self-worth. By dedicating a week to raising awareness about bullying, Lister Community School aims to empower students to stand up against bullying, promote kindness, and create a culture of empathy and understanding.
Odd Socks Day is a fun and engaging way to kick off Anti-Bullying Week and celebrate individuality. By encouraging students to wear mismatched socks, the school sends a powerful message that it's okay to be different and that embracing our unique qualities is something to be celebrated. This simple act can spark conversations about diversity, acceptance, and the importance of treating everyone with respect, regardless of their differences.
The success of Odd Socks Day at Lister Community School demonstrates the school's commitment to creating a positive and inclusive learning environment. By participating in this event, students not only have fun but also learn valuable lessons about kindness, empathy, and the power of standing up for what is right. This sets the tone for the entire week and year, encouraging students to continue to be mindful of their words and actions and to create a school community where everyone feels safe, supported, and valued.
In the picture here you can see all of the events through the week that we are using to celebrate diversity and stand up against bullying.
