The Raleigh Summer Youth Employment Program (RSYEP) remains committed to serving our Raleigh youth. The health, safety and well-being of our youth, program staff and partners remain our highest priority.
KEY DATES:
- 2022 Application and Interview process will begin February 15

PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS:
- Be age 15-18 as of May 31, 2022
- Live within the Raleigh city limits
- Be available to work June 21-August 5, 2022
- Attend program orientation on May 14, 2022.
- Be the only one in your household participating in this program
- If you choose the virtual option, must have computer and internet access
- Not miss more than 4 program days
- Not be enrolled in summer school
- Must have an NC State Issued ID, Learner’s Permit, Driver’s License, or current School Report Card that shows a Raleigh zip code at the time of interview. No exceptions.

- As of September 2021, all new employees must be fully vaccinated against the
- COVID-19 virus for in-person or hybrid.
- If there is a medical reason or sincerely held religious belief preventing you from receiving an available COVID-19 vaccination, and you are selected as a candidate for consideration, we have an accommodations process in place for those requests.

BIOGEN-MIT BIOTECH IN ACTION SUMMER 2022
The Biogen Community Lab and Lemelson-MIT group are hosting a 2-week long Biotech in Action free virtual summer lab program for high school students. Virtual Summer Lab 2022
After successfully launching the Biogen-MIT Biotech in Action: Virtual Summer Lab in 2020, and working to make it even better in 2021, we are continuing the program for 2022!
We have created a state-of-the-art, virtual program to continue to inspire and empower a new generation of young scientists globally. This year’s virtual program will use virtual labs, online learning and conferencing software, and real-time conversations with Biogen and MIT employees to teach you all about biotechnology and invention with a focus on Alzheimer’s disease and Digital Medicine.
· Discover a passion for health sciences, biotechnology, invention, and innovation
· Experience problem finding and problem solving in ways that mirror the biotech, university, and innovation sector
· Expand your knowledge and laboratory skills in STEM
· Develop skills aligned with those that are essential to the future of work
· Identify your personal strengths and capabilities and next steps for growth
Open to high school students currently in 9th - 12th grade in the U.S. and 14-18 years old globally. Priority will be given to students from low-income households and groups historically underrepresented in science.
We will be offering 2-week long virtual sessions for high school students, who must have completed at least 9th grade by this summer:
- Session I: June 21 – July 1
- Session II: July 12- July 22
- Session III: July 25 – August 5
COST IS FREE. Each session meets daily Tuesday -Friday for both weeks from 9 A.M. to 1 P.M. ET

UNC CHAPEL HILL MOREHEAD PLANETARIUM & SCIENCE CENTER NEEDS STUDENTS
UNC-Chapel Hill’s Morehead Planetarium & Science Center is recruiting applicants for several positions for the GSK Science in the Summer program. The GSK Science in the Summer program serves rising 2nd – 8th grade students in Alamance, Chatham, Durham, Franklin, Granville, Harnett, Johnston, Orange, Vance, and Wake counties. The program’s purpose is to provide meaningful and enriching STEM content to spark a lifelong love of science and interest in STEM careers. Please see below for more details.

DEMENTIA CAPABLE CARES INTERNSHIP
Internship Opportunity
Dementia Capable Cares (DCC) is a community-wide initiative, led by a passionate and dedicated group of community citizens, to create a Dementia-Friendly and Dementia-Inclusive environment in the Triangle area.
Requirements for Internship:
· Capacity to work independently; much of the work will be virtual
· Ability to maintain our social media and update our website from time to time; ability to meet first and third Tuesday’s in the summer in either an in-person or virtual meeting from 9-11 am.
· Once trained in our education program, you will assist as needed in training others about dementia awareness with a team of other Trainers.
What You will Gain:
· Learn about dementia and how it impacts cognition
· Learn how businesses, institutions and other entities can be helped by learning about how dementia impacts our society
· Learn how public spaces can be made safer for those with dementia and their caregivers
· Learn from Gerontologists, Nurses, Marketing Directors and other DCC members how our community can become more dementia inclusive.

Additionally, in the past we have taken part in career fairs at schools all over the Triangle offering lifeguarding and pool attendant jobs to students ages 15 and older. These jobs provide important skills through the training process such as first aid/CPR, customer service and leadership skills. The Capital Medical Reserve Corps is comprised of medical and non-medical volunteers who have been trained to assist during special events, public health emergencies, and disasters.
The Capital Medical Reserve Corps primarily supports the five counties that make up the Capital Regional Advisory Committee Healthcare Preparedness Coalition (Franklin, Harnett, Johnston, Lee and Wake), but can assist anywhere in the state when requested.
Recent events the Capital Medical Reserve Corps has supported include:

If nothing changes we will open up our application portals in September. Any changes to the requirements that may occur between now and then will be posted on the website. As of right now there is no new requirement under then volunteers having to sign a COVID Agreement to come into the hospital.

Athens Drive Magnet High School Career Academy Memorandum of Understanding:
As a member or candidate for the Health Science Academy program at Athens Drive Magnet High School, I acknowledge and understand that:
1. I am making a commitment to the full four (4) years of the program that includes the courses outlined in the current curriculum sequence entitled “Four Years-At-A-Glance” found on the school website.
2. I must maintain academic excellence while enrolled in the Academy. This includes maintaining a cumulative GPA (weighted) of a 2.5 by the end of the sophomore year and through to graduation. Academic probation or dismissal from the program may result if my GPA falls below this standard.
3. I have supplied my WCPSS email address on the application.
4. I agree that regular updates and/or announcements may be sent home via email to both the Academy member and/or parent/guardian. It is necessary for me to have a valid email address on file.
5. I must report to Academy activities and job shadowing opportunities dressed appropriately in business attire and/or our specified Academy uniform.
6. Participation and/or support of scheduled academy meetings/activities is expected of all members. My participation will be documented in the work-based learning portfolio that will be maintained throughout my Academy experience.
