SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENTS
Primary Music Classes Start This week
We are so fortunate to be in a district that offers an award winning nationally recognized district music program for students 3rd-12th grade. At Edison, we feed into this program by funding our very own primary music program in Spanish. Taught by our long-time singer songwriter music teacher, Maestra Jacqueline Fuentes, our students find their voice by singing authentic songs in Spanish based on themes and seasons. This year, in addition to choral music, students will develop their rhythm skills by incorporating percussion into their music. Students will be demonstrating their learning to parents at an "informance" the week of December 9th during their music class time and later at a formal performance during the Noche de Cesar Chavez event on March 28th. Mark your calendars and be prepared to be amazed by our students' musical skills.
Parent Singing Club starts this Monday
In addition to sharing her talents with our primary students, our primary music teacher, Ms. Jacqueline Fuentes, hosts a Parent Singing Club each Monday from 8:30-9:30 in room 109. This is a unique experience to meet other parents, learn more about latin music, engage in thoughtful discussions about children and life, laugh, and of course, sing. You don't have to know how to sing or be musical to join! all parents are encouraged to attend.
Wednesday Parent Meetings - ELAC
Each Wednesday, from 8:30-10:00 am, we have parent meetings in the Library. All parents are invited. Meetings are bilingual and there is a Zoom option at this link (although in person attendance is recommended).
This week we will be hosting our monthly ELAC MEETING.
Last week, during Coffee with the Principal and Experts, we had a wonderful presentation from Maestra Naranjo-Badillo on "How to Support Your Child on their Writing Journey". Parents learned about the writing rope, a process to teach writing, the three genres, and tips for how to support at home. They left with a magical jar of writing prompts they made and decorated to inspire their little writers at home. If you would like to see the presentation and/or directions on how to make this magical writing jar, look on our website under PARENTS - PARENT EDUCATION.
Share your Hispanic Heritage - this Thursday!
In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, many families have offered to set up a cultural table for students to learn more about the different Hispanic Cultures in our school. Students will view these tables this Thursday, October 10th. So far we have 10 countries represented: Guatemala, Peru, Venezuela, Ecuador, El Salvador, España, Cuba, Bolivia, Mexico, Bolivia.
If you would like to participate, please click the link below.

If you have already signed up, you can start bringing your items to the front office on Monday. We will have you fill out a paper so your items do not get lost and we will keep them safe in our community liaison, Jessica's office until the date.
Bike it! Walk it! Day
This Friday we will try to cut down on our carbon emissions and come to school biking, walking, busing, scootering, or on the metro. If you must drive, leave a few minutes early and park at Virginia Park and walk over. All students who enter this way will get a sticker. Let's see if we can make the morning commute less congested and more environmentally friendly.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
AM Drop Off Help Needed
We are still in need of parent volunteers to help with the AM drop off zone on Virginia Avenue from 8:00-8:30 am. All you need to do is check in at the office at 7:55 am, get an orange vest and then stand at the curb, open car doors, and greet children with a smile and "Buenos días". The more people we have, the faster and safer it will be. It's a wonderful way to start everyone's day!
If you can help at least one day/week, please contact our AP Aída Díaz (adiaz@smmusd.org).
