Straight 1s and Area BOUND!
On Saturday, October 15, the Rattler Band attended the UIL Region 12 Marching Contest and received Straight 1s (superior rating) from all three judges. This is the first time the Rattler Band has done this since 2014. This is also the first time in class 6A that the Rattler Band has been awarded straight 1s.
The Rattler Band will now advance to the Area D Marching Contest scheduled for Saturday, October 29th at 4:15 PM at Heroes Stadium. At this contest, 10 of the 24 competing bands will advance to a second and final round that will take place the same evening. From there, the top 5 bands will advance to the UIL State Marching contest.

Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF)
Join us for the upcoming HSF College 101 programs, held virtually via Zoom on Saturday, October 29, from 10AM–1PM! HSF College 101 is a FREE, bilingual program that provides information on how to prepare, plan, and pay for college. ALL students and families are welcome to attend the event!
Superstar Readers on the Rise
The Crockett Superstars were named the 2022 Summer Reading Contest Champions presented by the San Marcos Public Library. Congratulations to these Superstars on their literary success and thank you to the San Marcos Library for their continued support of San Marcos CISD!
World Teacher's Day Proclamation
Mayor Jane Hughson declared October 2, 2022 World Teacher's Day. To accept the award, SMCISD invited the 2021-2022 Teacher's of the Year from each campus. The teachers of the year were presented with the World Teacher's Day proclamation and a teal sash by San Marcos Mayor and City staff.
Region Symphony
Under the direction of Mr. Gabriel Balderrama, several SMHS Orchestra students went to the individual TMEA Region 12 Orchestra tryouts this past Saturday, October 15th. A special congratulations to two students who made the Region Symphony and are advancing to the next level of competition that could lead them to the TMEA All State Symphony.
Evan Foor earned Co-Principal bass ranking 2nd overall in the bass panel. Evan is the 2nd bass player in our program's history to make the Symphony group, but the first bass player from SMCISD to rank this high in our program's short existence.
Benjamin Keller earned 7th chair, 1st Violin, ranking 7th overall in the violin panel. This is Ben's 2nd time earning placement in the Symphony Orchestra.
Both Evan Foor (bass) and Ben Keller (violin) will compete on Saturday, October 29th.
Middle School Choir
The Goodnight and Miller Middle School Choir students participated in the individual TMEA Region 12 Region Choir competition on Saturday, October 15th. What a HUGE day for these students under Mr. Mario Contrera (Miller MS) and Ms. Alyson Schueller (Goodnight MS).

Trick-o-Trot Fun Run on October 22
San Marcos CISD is excited to invite all Rattlers to our eerie-sistible Trick-o-Trot Fun Run! This event is FREE! Join in on the fun this festive evening by dressing up, wearing glow bracelets, or by just participating in our 800meter (2 laps around the track) or 1.5 mile run around the SMHS athletic facilities! Food will be sold and all proceeds raised will benefit our P.E. and athletic programs.
SMHS Theatre Fall Play
The San Marcos High School Theatre Arts Department put on its first performance run of the 2022-2023 this past Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, with a comedy called "The Murderous Mansion of Mr. Uno." This was a "Clue" like mystery with "who done it" twist to almost a "who didn't" with multiple possible endings and fun for the whole family to watch. A fantastic start for Theatre Arts under new director Tommie Jackson!
Strikers Level Up
Mendez Elementary students were rewarded with prizes and treats for their progress in math and reading this past week. Principal Kristina Woody and staff celebrated their students progress with "Level Up" days on October 12 & 13. Great job, Strikers!
Christus Santa Rosa Trunk-o-Treat
The San Marcos Christus Santa Rosa Hospital is hosting a safe and family friendly Trunk-o-Treat event on Friday, October 21, from 6–8 PM. For more information please click here.
Rattler Singer Success
The SMHS Choir Program took 26 singers to the Texas Music Educators Association Region 12 Choir Auditions at Seguin HS. The group had 19 kids earn a spot in a Region ensemble and 2 students were selected as alternates. Out of the 19 selected students, 8 will be advancing to the next round of auditions- the Pre-Area round, at the end of November.
The Region Choir Clinic and Concert will be held on November 11th and 12th at Alamo Heights HS. Admission is free to those wanting to attend the concert. Please contact the San Marcos HS Choir Directors, Mrs. Sheridan (Dawn.Sheridan@smcisd.net) or Mrs. Smith (Brigitte.Smith@smcisd.net) if you are interested and wish to attend.

Nosotros La Gente Shoe Event
On October 12, Nosotros La Gente invited San Marcos CISD parent liaisons from each campus to purchase shoes for district students. Nosotros La Gente is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of families in and around San Marcos, Texas. For over 20 plus years NLG has provided shoes for children in San Marcos, Texas at no cost. Nosotros La Gente provided more than 100 pairs of shoes to SMCISD and will host another event in December to purchase coats and shoes for district families.
District Curriculum Night
SMCISD District Leadership hosted an Elementary Curriculum Night at De Zavala Elementary to highlight the district's newest curriculum - Eureka Math and Amplify.
The night included parent sessions, station activities highlighting the new math and reading Curriculum, Character Strong Presentation, SEL curriculum and Parent Tips for Parent/Teacher Community Day.
SMHS Junior Rattler Cheer Camp 2022
Does your Junior Rattler have spirit? Sign them up for the 2022 Cheer Camp happening on Saturday, October 22 from 8:00am-12:00pm (Registration opens at 7:45am) at the SMHS Student Activity Center gymnasium. Price per child is $40 (Pre-pay); $50 (Day Of); $10 off each additional sibling.
Hats off to the Boss'
In honor of Boss' Day, Rodriguez Elementary celebrated District Administration with a hot cake breakfast! Thank you to all district personnel for your continuous support and leadership, it does not go unnoticed.
SMCISD Shoutout – Southside Community Center
This week, SMCISD would like to recognize district partner - Southside Community Center. The center provides an abundance of support to SMCISD and district families. Southside Community Center provides the following resources: A warm meal daily @4pm, specific assistance, clothing, laundry services, shower services, transitional shelter, thanksgiving meal, sponsor a family/person for Christmas, school supplies, winter coats/blankets, workboots for employees from Labor Finders.
