Welcome Kindergarten 2021
We are looking forward to welcoming the newest members of our community in 2021. Watch our video that shares with you some the things that make Liverpool Public School a great place to learn.
Principal's Message
What a busy month it has been! We have recognised NAIDOC Week, celebrated Diwali with our Hindu students, run Kindergarten transition, attended high school orientations, had our Semester 2 Reward Day, held the Liverpool Olympics, recognised outstanding achievement at our annual presentation day, and I am sure most have now started the countdown to Christmas and the summer holidays. After such a challenging year, it is great that we have been able to come together – Covid safe of course – to enjoy the end of the 2020 school year.
As we move into 2021, please ensure you keep up to date with news and information. We will be using Skoolbag, Facebook and our school website to share information with our community. Please check these sites regularly, particularly the last week of the school holidays so that you are aware of what is happened when we return next year.
Behind the scenes staff have been busy working on our new Strategic Improvement Plan. We will be sharing this with our community next term and look forward to continuing the great work that we achieved in our previous plan.
There will be a number of staff changes at Liverpool Public School next year. Mrs Vajdevski successfully applied for the opportunity to relieve as principal of Mt Lewis Infants School for 2021. Mrs Longo is moving to a state-wide role and will be supporting schools to implement the new Student Behaviour Strategy until the end of Term 3.
Miss Mehinovic and Mrs Moore are moving to new adventures at other schools.
Mrs Lees was successful through merit selection and will continue as a Learning and Support Teacher at a school near Albury.
Thank you to all – we wish you well!
Next year we will be welcoming four new permanent teacher appointments. The process is still underway and I will share who the successful applicants are next year.
Covid is presenting some challenges with predicting student enrolments for 2021 and as a result the number of teachers we will need. I want to take this opportunity to acknowledge our temporary staff. These teachers and SASS are a vital resource in our school and at this time of year I appreciate their understanding. Whilst we may not be able to welcome all of them back next year, I know the whole school community is thankful for their contribution to our great school.
Don’t forget to let the school office know if your child will not be returning to Liverpool Public School next year. If you are planning on travelling over the summer holiday and may miss the beginning of the new school year please make sure you give the school office details of your travel arrangements and a copy of your flight itinerary before the end of the school year.
With just over a week of the school year left, I am sure this summer break is going to be thoroughly enjoyed. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Yours Sincerely
Mr Tapuska
Have you seen these notes and when are they due?
From the Deputy Principals - Mrs Alfaro and Mrs Vajdevski

Early Stage 1 News - Mrs Pritchard
Kindergarten students have been working hard in their classrooms each day. They are making such wonderful progress with their learning. It is hard to believe that Kindergarten is almost over and Year 1 is just around the corner.
A reminder that all students need to be wearing a school hat in the playground at recess and lunch time.
Home reading will be finishing this week. Liverpool City Library has a wonderful range of children’s books that can be borrowed. Signing up for a membership is free. This would be a great way for the students to continue with their reading over the upcoming school holidays.
Here are some photos of the students working hard in their classrooms.

The students have been busy learning about informative texts and are learning to give factual information about Australian animals.
They have designed a diorama for Koalas.
Year 1 gathered information on different Australian animals and organised it in a Matrix.

We have been learning different ways to make numbers, ways to group numbers and we are using a number line.
In writing we have been able to write our opinions. Now we are writing a story review and to express our opinions.
Science Club with Year 1
In Terms 3 and 4 Year One students participated in science activities to see what they could do with water and air pressure.
They found out that water droplets hold on to each other to make a bubble shape on top of a surface until they cannot hold on any more.
They also arranged Smarties in water and saw how the colours seeped out to make wheel shape but did not mix.
The students discovered that when they blew air onto a ping-pong ball air pressure could keep it from falling.
Team Leader Awards
Student Representative Council (SRC) Report
Due to COVID-19, the Student Representative Council has been limited to the activities they have been able to participate in this year.
On 1 December the Years 3-6 SRC members were very excited to participate in the GRIP Student Leadership Conference online at school.
As a group they participated in practical and interactive activities on topics including Leading the Way and Bringing Your Ideas to Life. Students developed strong leadership skills to take with them into their future lives.

Growth Mindset
Mindset is a simple idea discovered by world-renowned Stanford University psychologist Carol Dweck in decades of research on achievement and success.
Dr Dweck realised that there are two mindsets: a fixed mindset and a growth mindset. A person’s mindset can profoundly influence behaviour.
Research shows that parents/carers can have a powerful impact on their children’s mindsets.
Here are some questions you can use to help develop a growth mindset in your child/children.
1. What did you today that made you think hard?
2. What happened today that made you keep on going?
3. What can you learn from this?
4. What mistake did you make that you taught you something?
5. What will you do to challenge yourself today?
6. What would you like to become better at?
7. What strategy can you try?
8. What can you do to manage distractions?
9. What will you do to improve your work?
10. What will you do to solve this problem?
We hope these tips help you and your child to develop a growth mindset.
The Learning and Support Team wish all our students, families, staff and the wider school community a wonderful and safe holiday and we look forward to seeing you in the New Year.
To our amazing year 6 students………
From Mrs Helweh (on behalf of the Learning and Support Team 😊)
Library News
Library Borrowing
Borrowing books from our school library has finished for 2020. The school library is currently in the process of completing its annual Library stocktake. This is where we count every book in our school library to see if we have all our books returned. To help us with the stocktake students will not be able to borrow books from Monday 16 November 2020 onwards.
If you have any library books at home start returning them so we can count it in our stocktake.
Students who still want to borrow books can borrow from Liverpool City Library during this.
Plus, Reading Eggs website has a library section where you can read books online.
Most Popular Book to Borrow
The most popular book to borrow in our school library for November has been George's Marvellous Medicine by Roald Dahl.

Sports News
Last Thursday, Years 3 - 6 participated in a mini School Olympics. Students competed in a range of events from running, netball, shot put and obstacle courses to team building activities such as rob the nest, tug-o-war and dodgeball. All students participated eagerly and displayed great sportsmanship.
The results of these events will determine sporting age champions for 2020.
2021 Sporting Opportunities
Next year, at Liverpool PS, we have some exciting sporting opportunities for all students. Now that restrictions in NSW are easing, sport will be open to all students in a competitive and non-competitive manner. For all students in Years 3-6, students can have the option of competing in:
- PSSA
As per 2019, all sports are back and are available for students to try out for. The sports include; Girls and Boys Soccer, Netball, Touch Football and Rugby League. These sports will have trials in Term 1 for the weekly competition to begin in Term 2.
- NSW Knockout Competition
This is a new opportunity for our students to compete in. It may also be against schools who we may not normally play against. The competition works on a game-by-game basis, meaning that if we win our game, we have the opportunity to play against another team.
- Swimming Carnival, Cross Country and Athletics Carnival
These carnivals are our usual competitions which we are hoping to make bigger and better than ever. In addition to this, we are hoping to involve all of Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2 as well.
- Representative Sport
As with every year, students have the chance to trial for representative position at the Zone and Regional level. There are a wide variety of sports on offer and Mr Wann is able to provide you with all the information you need regarding these sports.
We look forward to seeing all students next year and participating in as much sport as possible. If you have any questions about sport next year, please talk to Mr Wann or see the office staff who will be able to direct you on.
