August Newsletter 2024
Hello Winona Families!!!!!
I hope that you have had a wonderful summer and that you were able to create fun memories with your family. I am Kim Tymkowych and I am the principal at Winona. This is my 8th year as the principal at Winona, my 12th year as a principal, and my 22nd year in education! I have two boys of my own: Ryder is almost 17 and Maddox is 13! We are so excited to kick-off our school year by getting to know all of our families. It is very important to all of our staff to work together with our families to help each student be successful and happy at school. Please call our office at 970-613-7100 if there is anything we can help you with!!

Parent Pick-Up/Drop-Off Details
When students get to school in the morning, they will enter the doors at parent pick-up and walk through the school to their classrooms. Kinder and first grade will be able to enter their classroom from the exterior classroom door that is located in the front of our building (facing East) if you would like to walk them to that door.
The bus zone is in the front of the school. Family vehicles will not be permitted to use that location. Please stay out of the bus zone.
Thank you!

Free and Reduced Lunch Applications
2024-2025 MEAL BENEFIT APPLICATIONS NOW AVAILABLE!!!
Applications are now being accepted for the 24-25 school year. This may qualify you for other benefits such as reduced fees and the P-EBT program.

For the 2024/25 school year, the Thompson School District will provide access to no-cost meals for all students through the Healthy School Meals for All program.
Research shows students perform better at school when they are not hungry. By providing access to breakfast and lunch for all students at no cost, we better support their learning.
Although all students will receive access to no-cost meals, it's still important for households to provide their income information when requested. Gathering this information allows the Thompson School District to receive the state and federal funding we qualify for. These funds go directly to schools to help cover the cost of meals and support after-school activities and other nutritional programs for students. Plus, qualifying households may be eligible for Summer EBT benefits, receive discounted or waived school fees, class materials, utilities support, and more. Providing household income information ensures you and your school receive all available financial support.
The attachments contain more information and forms to provide your household income information. While the following pages may reference eligibility for free or reduced-price school meals, access to breakfast and lunch will be provided free to all students regardless of household income.
Our school meals follow U.S. Department of Agriculture guidelines for healthy school meals. You can be confident your children are getting quality school meals while saving your family time and money.

Our Family Liaison, Gaby Salvador, is available in Winona's office to support you with filling out this application if you would like support.
What school lunch options are available
Every day we offer a hot lunch and a cold lunch choice. The hot lunch is considered the main lunch choice. A cold lunch is usually a PB&J or a meat and cheese sandwich. Your student is also more than welcome to bring a home lunch to school as well.
