Winter Dance 2024!
A Note from Principal Bame
Dear Apex Middle School Families,
Last night, our choral students joined forces with peers from Apex and Apex Friendship High Schools, as well as Salem Middle School, for a stunning performance. The event was truly spectacular and a shining example of the power of community partnerships! A special shout-out to Mr. Browning for co-directing this memorable concert.
Tonight, the Middle School All-County Honors Band Concert will take place at Ligon Magnet Middle School, celebrating the outstanding achievements of 158 talented students from across the county, including our own from AMS. A huge thank-you to Ms. Marks for her dedication in preparing our students for this incredible experience!

A Note from Mrs. Broadbent, School Psychologist
The Power of Gratitude: Helping Your Child Develop an Attitude of Appreciation
As parents, we want our children to grow up to be kind, compassionate, and appreciative individuals. One key way to foster these qualities is by encouraging gratitude. Gratitude, the act of being thankful and expressing appreciation, is a powerful tool that can have a profound impact on a child's well-being and development.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Warm regards,
Raleigh Bame
Principal, Apex Middle School

RMH Wishing Tree: Final Push for Donations!
Thank you so much for the generous donations to the Ronald McDonald House Wishing Tree drive. These homes provide comfort, care, and support to seriously ill children and their families, and we’re collecting snacks to help make their holidays away from their own homes a little brighter.
The last day to donate is this Monday, November 25, so let’s rally together for this amazing charitable cause. Every donation makes a difference!

Artist in Residence: We are excited to share that our 6th grade students will have the unique opportunity to engage with Linda Gorham, an artist-in-residence who will bring ancient Greek myths to life through interactive storytelling! This special program will take place on Friday December 6th during core 4. We believe it will be both educational and inspiring for our students. Ms. Gorham is a talented and experienced interactive storyteller who will guide students through three classic myths. She will present these stories in a way that will captivate students as she encourages participation and they will become part of the narrative through movement, voice, and imagination. We are so excited to welcome her!
March 13th - Myrtle Beach Field Trip: The final payment of $66 is due by December 13th. If you have any questions about what is owed for your child or you as a chaperone, please contact your child’s ELA teacher. Please note, chaperones have already been notified.
6th Grade Social: Last Friday we had our first 6th grade social and it was a huge success. The students were well behaved and seemed to really enjoy themselves! We appreciate all the donations or snacks and water. The left overs will be saved and used for snack bags for the 6th grade field trip to Myrtle Beach, SC.
6th Grade Updates
ELA UPDATES:
This week students will finish their independent research on Serf/Peasants or Lords/Ladies. They will use the information gathered on their Adversity Anchor chart to write a well written essay about the challenges faced by the group of people they chose.
Students were given an Independent Reading Pacing Guide with specific dates to help break the reading of their independent reading book down into smaller sections so they can successfully read their book and complete their choice board activities by Jan. 10th. Teachers have been signing off each week to ensure students are reading their books. Students should have their book with them in class as some day we will “drop everything and read.” We are really trying to build reading stamina and improve their reading fluency and inforce skills taught in class. Please ask them about the book they have chosen to read. Here are some helpful questions:
Why did you select this book?
Will you catch me up on the story? What’s happened so far?
What do you think will happen next?
If you were that character, what would you have done differently in that situation?
Where is the book set?
If the main character in that story lived next door, would you be friends? Why?
Did you learn any new words or facts so far?
What was your favorite part of the book? Why?
Who was your favorite character? Why?
What was the most interesting thing you learned from the book?
Would you have ended the book differently?
Did it end the way you thought it would?
Did the problem of the book’s plot get solved?
If you could change one thing in the book, what would it be?
