Hispanic Heritage Month is a great opportunity to learn about different parts of the Latino culture. Hispanics or Latinos are very diverse culturally. For example, did you know that there is a growing Latino community in Alaska. Check out the video below from PBS. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn more about our students, their culture and language. Check out all of the different resources available across the country.

National Hispanic Heritage Month begins on September 15th. This newsletter offers you a wide variety of resources for a month of celebrating and honoring the history, culture, and contributions of Americans whose families hail from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America.

Hispanic students are vastly underrepresented in STEM AP courses and college majors. Shift the equation by exposing students to contributions of Hispanic cultures and Hispanic Americans to the fields of mathematics and science.

Hispanic Heritage Month: The origin of the piñata

The piñata is a beloved tradition for many children. Despite being associated with Hispanic culture, the piñata originates from Asia, according to Spanish Language Arts teachers. “It’s believed the piñata actually derives from Marco Polo way back in the days when he was traveling through Asia,” said Adan Martinez, a Spanish teacher at Socorro High School.
