Greetings, La Porte ISD Family. Today is a great day to be a Bulldog!
It is hard to believe that today is the last day of June! Whether you are traveling this summer, spending your days at the beaches and splash pads, catching up on your reading, or even getting a few extra hours of sleep, I hope your summer is enjoyable. Although we are also taking some time for ourselves during these summer months, our dedicated teachers, administrators, and support staff have been diligently preparing for the new academic year. Not a day has gone by that did not include some type of professional development opportunity, and that will continue through July, with more than 30 sessions being made available for our teachers.
Please join me in congratulating La Porte ISD's School Nutrition Department for being honored with a Best of the Bunch award for its participation in the 2023-24 Farm Fresh Challenge, sponsored by the Texas Department of Agriculture. The challenge encourages schools to serve locally sourced food products to children. This is the fifth straight year that La Porte ISD has received the award for serving such items as locally sourced produce, meat and bread. Fewer than 10 percent of participating school districts are honored with this award.
I had a lot of fun this past week hosting one of our pop-up read aloud events. I enjoy reading because it allows me to explore new worlds, gain knowledge, and experience different perspectives. These storytelling sessions provide an opportunity to share our love for reading and hopefully spawn a younger generation of readers. We have several more events scheduled in July, beginning at 10 a.m. tomorrow at Leo A. Rizzuto Elementary School. Come join us to hear a story, make your own bookmark and enjoy a cold treat!
Finally, this will be a short week in La Porte ISD as we celebrate Independence Day on Thursday. If you are in town, I hope to see you at the July Fourth Parade, which is sponsored by the Rotary Club of La Porte. It gets underway at 10 a.m. See the link below for more details.
As always, La Porte ISD is a wonderful school district because of your support, and I am grateful to you!
With La Porte pride,
Walter Jackson, Ed.D.
