Woodland Elementary Weekly Notes
Dear Woodland Families!
It is hard to believe that we are in our final weeks of this amazing school year. The kids have all grown so much with their learning, problem solving, and leadership skills. All year we have focussed on giving kids what they need, when they need it, and the results are strong. I hope you too can see the growth of your own children.
The Woodland school community is simply the best. Our kids work hard each day, refining their problem solving and leadership skills both at school and in the community. Our parents are so supportive and I know that with one phone call, anyone would be here to volunteer or help out with a project. Our neighbors and community are also great, even when kids move on to JRG and KHS. These parents continue to reach out and ask how they can support our learners. Lastly, our staff members are simply the best. They care about our children like they are their own, and the energy they put into helping our learners is inspiring. All of that is surrounded by an entire school district that puts students first, values learning, and continuously looks for ways to make a great district even better. We are in good hands!
A focus this year for our classrooms was having kids develop learning goals and learning plans so they could independently work on their areas that need improvement. I am sure if you ask your children about this, they will have detailed answers to what they continue to work on this school year. While we are down to our final weeks of learning, we view this as a large chunk of time to have our learners dig in and continue developing. We are keeping the “pedal to the metal” at Woodland, and look forward to seeing even more growth this next month.
In addition to the hard work that happens each day, we also have a number of fun and exciting activities for our students. On May 9th, I invite you all to the Woodland Art Show. Mrs. Englebert has been busy getting our halls ready for our guests. Please stop by to celebrate our young artists! We also invite you to attend our Breakfast with a Buddy on May 17th. This is a fun morning to have a bite to eat and conversation with other students and families. I hope to see you there! Lastly, our PTO is also busy preparing for our End of Year Carnival on June 6th. This is a fun day of celebration for our kids, and we are also inviting current 4K students who will be attending Woodland this Fall. It will be a fun day for all!
We will miss seeing the kids each day at school, but look forward to having them back in the Fall. Congratulations to our Grade 4 students as well as they move on to their next journey at Woodland Intermediate School. Enjoy the final weeks of school and let's make it a great summer! Take care and thanks again for your continued support of this amazing place!

The grading tab will reopen on Thursday, June 6th at 4:00 pm at which time you will be able to access your child’s report card via the parent portal in Infinite Campus. Please note that when reviewing your student’s report card, teacher comments do not show up in the portal when looking at the main Grades screen. They do, however, if you access the Reports screen. Sunscreen Policy: Just a reminder that it is the District's guideline that we do not provide or allow students to share or use another person's sunscreen, lip balm, lotion, etc., due to the potential for an allergic reaction to the active ingredients in these products. With the warm sunny days forecasted ahead, parents are encouraged to apply sunscreens at home prior to sending their child to school.

Breakfast With A Buddy
Counselor's Corner with Mr. Biolo
Below is a summary by grade level of what your children were learning this week in Life Skills. As always, please contact me at cbiolo@kimberly.k12.wi.us if you have any questions.
5K
Learning about our gifts and talents. We will do this by listening to the story Cosmo Zooms. This is a short story about a dog(Cosmo) who sees other dogs that have special gifts and talents and he feels like he may not have any himself. Later in the story, Cosmo finds out that he does have some special gifts and talents and he is excited by this. I will then have students write or draw what they feel might be some of their gifts and talents.
1st and 2nd Grade
We will watch a cartoon version of The Tortoise and the Hare and follow this up with a classroom discussion on the themes of the story. We will discuss things like taking our time to do things right, being kind, having a plan when we set out to do something, and being a “good sport” when competing with others. We finish by playing a game where I read a statement, and the kids decide if this statement is more like the tortoise or more like the hare.
3rd Grade
Students will watch a slide show where we discuss the topic of having Grit. We will link this discussion to last week's lesson on Growth Mindset and we will be defining and discussing terms like having perseverance and a positive mental attitude. Lastly we will talk about how having Grit and a Growth Mindset can help us in school, in activities that we may be involved in outside of school, and in life in general.
4th Grade
This will be the last career exploration lesson for our 4th graders. Once again we will be discussing that there are many careers/jobs out there and that all of them fit into one of the 16 career clusters which we have been learning about. We will finish by playing a game where I name a career and the students discuss that career and decide as a group which career cluster that career/job belongs in.
Notes from the School Nurse
Medication Pick-up
Please see the letter from our school nurses regarding prescriptions and over the counter medication pick up at the end of this school year.
Class Placement
As this school year comes to a close, thoughts turn to the summer and the upcoming school year. One thought students wonder about is their classroom assignments for the next year. We will continue our efforts to maximize the learning potential of each student by balancing student/teacher ratios, maintaining gender balance, grouping students heterogeneously, and avoiding potential student conflicts as we assign students to classes. Parents will be notified of their child’s classroom assignment by the first week of August. We ask that you do not request a specific teacher. We thank you in advance for your understanding and cooperation so that we can make classroom assignments with the most current enrollment numbers possible before the start of the school year.
