MTMS Wolf Wire
September 20, 2024
MT's purpose is to educate and empower students to become responsible citizens.
A Few Words From the Principal
Happy Fall Everyone! There's a lot of great information in this week's Wolf Wire. Thank you for taking the time to read through.
Middle school years can be challenging for students as they mature and start figuring out who they want to be. We support our students during these foundational years to be kind and inclusive as they grow. One way we do this is through our Start With Hello activities. Start with Hello is a national call-to-action week dedicated to making new social connections and creating a sense of belonging among youth. We will be having spirit days (see more information below) as well as school activities throughout the week. Help your student make connections with others, it can start simply by saying hello.

Reminders & Information
Parent/Teachers Conferences
Parent Teacher Conference - Wednesday, September 25th and Thursday, September 26th. Open conferences will be in the Gym, Commons, and, Media Center on Wednesday from 4:30 - 7:30pm and Thursday from 4:00 - 8:00pm. Conferences will be by appointment Thursday from 9:30am - 3:00pm. Teachers will not be available on Wednesday from 4:00 - 4:30pm or Thursday from 3:00 - 4:00pm to allow for a dinner break.
Tips for a Successful Conference
Please park in the parking lot where the carloop is at the back of the school and enter the building through the activity entrance doors.
For open conferences in the evenings, team teachers will be in the gym and commons and Explo teachers in the commons. SPED teachers and counselors will be in the Media Center.
Bring your student's schedule printed or save it in advance, as our building's internet connection is unreliable.
Evening conferences are meant to be short, around 5 minutes each. If you anticipate needing additional time, please consider scheduling a conference during our daytime hours on Thursday, or contact the teacher to arrange another time that works for you.
We will have extra seating available while you wait for a teacher to be free. Thank you for respecting the privacy of the parent who is currently in the conference while you wait.
If Conferences raise more questions, please come back for Showcase Night on October 10th! We will be conducting a Technology Bootcamp for parents that will help explain some of the resources available for parents to monitor and assist their students.
Student Preparedness
Students are required to have WIRED earbuds for use in the classroom. Please make sure they are bringing these to school each day so that they're prepared to learn. Please encourage your students to double-check that they have all items they require for the day before leaving home: water bottles, charged MacBook, lunch, sports gear, etc. Thank you!!
No TSP Next Week - September 24 & 25 - Due to Conferences
MT Conditioning Program
Formerly known as ACP (not to be confused with Mill Valley's ADP program), the MT Conditioning Program is open to all interested 6th, 7th, and 8th graders. These 20 minutes workouts will be held after school and are a great way for students to build strength, endurance, and burn off some energy! Students will be required to have a KSHSAA physical completed and on file with the office, a signed permission form, and voluntary consent form to participate. Check out our website and information sheet to learn more! Workouts start October 1st for all students who are clear to participate.
Girls Basketball
There will be an informational meeting for 7th and 8th grade girls basketball held on Monday, September 23, during WIN time (2:35-3:05). All girls interested in playing are invited to attend.
Carloop Safety
Parents/Guardians picking up students after school in the back lot - please DO NOT park in the parking lot and have your student walk through traffic to get to you. The few minutes you might save aren't worth the risk to our students and the staff who work to keep them safe. Please utilize the carloop pickup at the curb to keep traffic flowing and students out of harm's way. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

If your student forgets to take medication before school or you bring medication for your student, you will be asked to stay and administer the medication to your student.
Illness
Please report any symptoms of illness to the school. Please be specific- report symptoms such as sore throat, nausea, fever instead of reporting “ill” or “sick”. Giving symptoms helps with Health Department reporting and to see illness trends in the district.
It is district policy to keep your student home until symptom free/fever free for 24 hours without medication. It will help to prevent the spread of illness.
