OSS MH is pleased to announce that we have been chosen as a "GreatSchools.org 2019 College Success Award Winner"!
The College Success Award recognizes and celebrates high schools like ours that go beyond simply getting our students to graduation and also focus on ensuring students are prepared to succeed in college.
OSHS is one of 1,722 schools in 25 states across the country to be honored with the Award, which is based on data about how our school prepares students to succeed after high school, including whether they enroll in college, are ready for college-level coursework when they get there and persist into their second year. See the full list of winners from Florida and watch videos of National Spotlight Schools to learn about other promising practices at high schools across the country at https://www.greatschools.org/gk/csa-winners/.

7th Grade Orcas Participate in 2019 Duke TIP Identification Program
Orlando Science Schools would like to recognize the students who participated in the 2019 Duke University Talent Identification Program’s 7th Grade Talent Search. Forty OSS students have earned an award by scoring approximately at or above the national average of recent high school graduates on at least one part of the ACT or the SAT. These students are invited to a special recognition ceremony held at the University of South Florida.
Additionally, we would like to recognize those students who scored high enough to qualify for grand recognition. Students who qualify for grand recognition scored approximately at or better than 90 percent of recent high school graduates on at least one part of the ACT or the SAT. These students are invited to a special recognition ceremony at Duke University. Only about 4 percent of all the participants in the talent search qualify for grand recognition. This is quite an achievement! Congratulations to the following students for achieving this prestigious grand recognition.
Omer D., Ishaan D., Sathwik D., Tarang G., Arielle G., Meghana K., Michelle L., Jaithra N., Aaditya N., Hemangi P., Chhavi P., William S., and Duy T.
Duke TIP is a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving academically gifted and talented students. Duke TIP works with students, their families, and educators to identify, recognize, challenge, engage, and help students reach their highest potential. Now in its thirty-ninth year, the 7th Grade Talent Search identifies bright seventh graders based on standardized test scores achieved while attending elementary or middle school. Candidates are invited to take the ACT or the SAT college entrance exams as seventh graders, which allows them greater insight into their academic abilities. In addition, they gain valuable benefits and have access to unique resources for gifted students.
