Claypit Hill News and More
March 18, 2025
Dear Claypit Hill Caregivers,
While March can feel like a LONG, gray, month, we are a little over ½ way through the month and our hearts are full. We’re feeling like it is time to pause again and thank our parent partners.
Thanks to the PTO and the Cultural Arts Committee, headed up by Larina Mehta, for bringing the ZuZu African Acrobats to Claypit this past Thursday. We can honestly say that we have NEVER seen anything like their performance in our lives. These acrobats embodied our Claypit value: WORK HARD. They made the gravity defying feats of human strength and balance look fairly easy. This simply would not be possible without years of hard work. This group also modeled the importance of teamwork and trust for our students, too. Our students were captivated from the moment the presentation began. It was breathtaking…quite literally. It also provided a gorgeous window into the beauty of the Tanzanian culture of East Africa. A sincere thank you for providing such a rich and entertaining cultural arts event for the students at Claypit Hill.
We’d also like to thank Kelley Shaw-Wade and the PTO for collaborating with us to recommit to composting at Claypit. Kelley and her fifth grade daughter have a passion for all things green. We could not be more appreciative that they’ve shared their time and passion with us to re-energize and improve our composting program at Claypit. We are very grateful to Alexis and the PTO for standing behind this initiative and supporting it with their time, seed money and volunteer hours! Please check out opportunities for you and your family to join us in getting just a little more green further down in the enews.
This year, our PTO has taken on the long-standing tradition of delivering “Just Like Me” lessons to many of our elementary classrooms. Our parent volunteers are passionate about ensuring that Claypit students understand that all students come to students with differences that make them unique and worth celebrating. Children all come to school with strengths and each will face challenges. Through this programming Claypit students learn a little bit more about the challenges that students who experience deafness and hard of hearing, learning differences, and the autism spectrum. Our students learn that areas of strength can be used to accommodate challenges. Thank you to Elizabeth Wuerz who has coordinated the program for Claypit Hill this year. We are grateful for your time and the passion you bring to Just Like Me.
Finally, on Thursday night we will get together beginning at 5:00 p.m. to watch our students perform on the Claypit Hill stage. Claypit Hill’s Got Talent, an annual tradition that is back for the second year in a row, is one that encourages risk taking, hard work, teamwork and creativity. We are thankful to the PTO and Annie Matthews for all of the work that goes on behind the stage so that our Claypit Hill cubs can shine on the stage! This is an event for the whole family. We love seeing our Claypit Hill community gather together to support our children. Thank you for the time you’ll spend hooting and hollering in the audience!
As you can see, the PTO is an integral part of every child’s school experience. We couldn’t possibly provide all of these incredible opportunities for our students without their partnership. If you haven’t yet gotten involved with our PTO please consider reaching out to them. There are all kinds of opportunities, BIG and tiny. Please consider supporting the PTO in the upcoming Backpack Action. Every single child at Claypit has a more enriching experience because of the important work of our Claypit Hill PTO. For more information about getting involved please email ClaypitPTO@gmail.com.
We are truly grateful for your support and partnership!
Sincerely,
Marie, Kate and Naomi

Parents of First, Third and Fifth Grade Students
Parents of First, Third, and Fifth Grade Students,
Beginning the week of March 31 and continuing until April vacation, your children will participate in a program designed to educate students about sexual abuse prevention. Claypit Hill counselors will spend time in classrooms showing and discussing a video. The goal of the program is to help children:
Increase their awareness of abuse and exploitation;
Develop skills and understanding that will help them avoid a potentially abusive situation;
Know how important it is to tell a trusted adult if they have been abused; and
Understand that if a child has been abused it is not their fault.
This is presented in an age-appropriate format at different developmental levels for the span of age groups involved. After the video and some discussion, the children will be asked to talk with you about it. The videos will be made available for you to preview on Monday, March 25 at 8:30 AM and Friday, March 28 at 1:30 PM.

MCAS Dates are Finalized
The MA Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) provides districts with a testing window. We have scheduled our assessments late in the window to provide for as much time for teaching and learning as possible before the assessments. As a result, there is little time provided for make up tests. It is imperative that travel not be scheduled during the MCAS testing days. Please support our school by planning accordingly.
