New FBA Initiatives
Advisor Meeting
- ways in which FBA can involve our Advisor Members
- how they can help FBA
- how together we can expand our membership base and
- increase the organization's exposure.
As we focus on growing our membership, we continue to be convinced that member referrals remain our best strategy to introduce others to our dynamic organization. It all begins with event attendance and FBA is committed to holding at least one promotional event annually.
We need for our members to reach out and engage non-members in FBA through event attendance and membership recommendations. Your voice is important.
New Generation Organizing
- how FBA can best serve the New Generation
- the need for educational sessions specific to this generation
- ways for this group to get together
- leadership for this group
Watch for news as our New Generation organizes to become a vibrant pillar of FBA.
Family Business Advisory (FBA) Team Retreat
Our retreat was centered around balance in our lives. We rented a beautiful seven bedroom house out on Willis point called the View and spent two nights there. We started with a painting class at four Cats where we all took direction from an art teacher and created one of a kind masterpieces. We cooked our own dinner the first night and had our FBA Team meeting.
The next morning we ate a good breakfast and then waited for our bus to pick us up and we drove to Merridale Cidery, new FBA Family Member, where we had a tour and learned all about the process of making cider and other distilled liquor from their fruit. After a nice lunch there, we took our bus back to our house and then had a lecture from a nutritionist and an open discussion around sleep habits and finding ways to encourage movement in our daily lives.
We then had a 4 course catered dinner by a local chef followed by a game night. Sunday morning we had a class on Core Breath and Pilates and we were given journals and guidebooks as a takeaway. We wanted to have fun and stay closer to home this time and really focus on work, life, and health balance. It was a success and we stayed within budget!
Join a Family Business Advisory (FBA) Team
The teams serve as your own mini board of directors, supporting you in your challenges and opportunities as a family business. Members leverage the perspectives of other family businesses, industries and generations.
We encourage all family business member to join an FBA Team. This is their unique opportunity to learn from each other, to work on their family business is a special way and to have the security of confidential discussions in a trusting and inviting environment. Many members of family businesses feel alone and these groups end the isolation because those in the group understand that operating a family business brings its unique challenges.
The experiences from those who have been there on topics like working with the family, managing the business and succession are among the areas discussed.
