To Celebrate International Week of Deaf People, we'll wear blue on Thursday!
Happy Monday!
Here are our Monday updates. I hope everyone had a relaxing and enjoyable weekend. I hope to see you at the Maple Grove Walk-A-Thon later this week.
Maple Grove Walk-A-Thon is This Week:
Our largest fundraiser of the year is in full swing! Students brought home envelopes last week to start collecting money for our annual Maple Grove Walk-A-Thon. Last year we raised over $18,500 for our Maple Grove PTA, and we hope to smash that goal this year! Please have all envelopes back to school by Thursday, and join us for our Walk-A-Thon on Friday at 2:00pm. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to the Maple Grove PTA via email: maplegrovegrizzliespta@gmail.com
Attendance Information:
This past summer, the state of Iowa put into place some tight expectations around attendance. I wanted to be sure to lay out all of that information in a manageable way for families so you know what to expect as our year continues on. See the information below about excused and unexcused absences and reach out with any questions.
- Level 1: Chronic Absenteeism, Missing 10% of the days in a grading period or semester (approx 56 hours or 8 days). Families are notified via mail that they have reached this threshold.
- Level 2: School Engagement Meeting when a student reaches 15% absenteeism (approx 84 hours or 12 days). Families are notified via an automatic email. Families will need to schedule an engagement meeting with the building.
- Level 3: Truancy, CRCSD defines truancy as missing 20% or more days in a grading period or semester (112 hours or 15 days +). Families will get an automatic email and be referred to the county attorney.
Please note: The new legislation does not differentiate between excused and unexcused absences; all absences count toward the total time missed and are included in the 10%, 15%, and 20% absenteeism rates. This means that the notification and intervention process will occur at these thresholds, regardless of the type of absence.
If you would like to know more, please click here to read the attendance information from our district.
Hy Vee Receipt Collections:
In case you didn't hear, Maple Grove collects Hy Vee Receipts from local Hy Vee stores, drugstores, and gas stations (Cedar Rapids/Marion) in order to earn money for our school. We have currently earned $122.89 to be brought back to the school (which means we've collected over $24,000 in receipts so far!). Our goal is to earn $110/month, so be sure to keep sending those Hy Vee Receipts into school with your child. See the flyer below for more information.
It's a great day to be a Grizzly!
