Happy Thursday Wildcats!
Congratulations to our Students of the Week: High School: Alexis S, Middle School: Owen H, and Elementary: Lily P
Next week KSB will celebrate Founders Day in person for the first time since 2019. I would like to give a special thank you to Connie Hill, Adam Springer and the KSB Alumni for all of their planning in celebrating the wonderful place that KSB is. During the Founders Day celebration, Ms. Renee Farrell, retired KSB Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist, will receive the prestigious Paul J. Langan Award. The Paul J. Langan Award was established in 1992 at the 150th Anniversary Founders' Day celebration. Mr. Langan was superintendent of the Kentucky School for the Blind from 1945-1956 began many programs which have had lasting effect even until today.
The Award is presented to individuals who have given their time and efforts over a long period of time to support and interact with KSB, people that are blind and visually impaired, and the blindness community. The Paul J. Langan Award is intended to be a high honor to those who receive it and as recognition of Mr. Langan 's legacy of character and service.
This year’s award will be presented at the KSB Founders Day program on May 9th at 1:00 pm in Richie Auditorium. Well folks it has been a short Derby Week here at KSB, but it has been another busy week here at the Howser Dorm. We kicked off the week on Sunday afternoon in welcoming back our dorm students and last high school short course week students with a meal of fries, cheese sticks and fish sandwiches. We began our planning for Derby week with discussion of Oaks and Derby events for the recreation time. Our students began picking horses and looking at colors, numbers and jockeys for the upcoming Friday Oaks and the girls running for the Lillies and the Derby and the boys in the Run for the Roses on Saturday. On Monday we began with a trip to the arts/crafts room to pick horses and colors and then begin decorating their stick horses for the upcoming KSB Stick Horse Derby. On Tuesday the students went bowling and had a great time as all the students got plenty of opportunities to bowl at 10 Pins Lane. Great atmosphere for the students and staff to enjoy a fun time bowling together. On Wednesday May1st the students got to finish up their stick horses and get ready for the Big Race. The winners in the stick horse derby were Mahogany and Gabe in the run for the Roses/Lillies, Ben won an award with his horse design and best of show with their stick horse was Hailey and Colton D. Our dorm students had a blast in their own Derby events atmosphere. This is a short week so the students will be checking out of the dorm and heading home at the end of the school day at 1:30 on Thursday May 2nd. It has been another fun week here at Howser dorm and we wish everyone a safe and happy Derby weekend and may your horse when in the Oaks and the Derby. And in preparation for Star Wars Day May the 4th be with you on Saturday. Until Next Time.

2024 Summer PATH Information
Summer will be here before we know it, which means that PATH is on its way. The summer program is July 14-21 at the University of KY. The program is open to students whether they want to go to work or go on to post-secondary training when they leave high school. Students need to meet the definition of a student with a disability. The requirements are:
- Ages 14-21
- In an educational setting (public school, homeschool, private school, etc.)
- With a 504 plan, IEP, or documented disability
This year, the focus will be on STEM careers. However, the student does not need have to have a decision to go into a STEM career to attend. This is a great opportunity for career exploration. The link for applications is application here.
