Suicide Prevention Week
This week is suicide prevention week. Our mental health staff will make daily announcements to remind students of the support they have available when in crisis or when they are aware of another student in crisis. The announcements will consist of myths and facts regarding sucidie and a daily reminder that staff can assist during a crisis. Students will be reminded of the 988 hotline and resources available to them. Here is the video that will be shown.
Immunization Clinic
Franklin will host an immunization clinic September 24th from 9:30am-11:30am. Please call the school and ask for our counseling secretary Ms. Braswell to make an appointment in advance.
The State of Michigan requires children to be age-appropriately vaccinated to attend school, unless a valid waiver applies. Children entering 7th grade are required to have documentation of the following vaccinations:
All 7th Graders and 7-18 year old transfer students:
Diphtheria, Tetanus, Pertussis (DTP, DTaP, Tdap)4 doses diphtheria and tetanus or 3 doses if 1st dose given on or after 1 year of age
1 dose Tdap at 11 years of age or older upon entry into 7th grade or higher
Polio4 doses or 3 doses if dose 3 was given on at or after 4 years of age
Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR)*2 doses at or after 12 months of age
Hepatitis B3 doses
Meningococcal Conjugate (MenACWY)1 dose at 11 years or age or older upon entry into 7th grade or higher Varicella (Chickenpox)*2 doses at or after 12 months of age or current lab immunity or history of varicella disease
** If your student is not fully immunized by October 11, 2024 per the State of Michigan, they may not be able to attend school.

Cellphone and Other Policies
Please see the attached document for an overview of some keys policies pertaining to cellphones, headphones, earbuds, hats, hoodies and backpacks. We will review these policies with students during our grade level assemblies.
Family Resource Center
Wayne-Westland Community Schools has a Family Resource Center (FRC), which provides services to any student/family enrolled in our District, free of cost. Some of the services they provide are: basic need assistance, access to over 700 local resources, Laundry Assistance Program and material items for those unable to afford them (emergency toiletries, socks/underwear, hats/gloves/scarves, etc.) They are also able to supply school supplies and backpacks year round for any WWCS student. Please contact our Family Resource Center at: 734-419-2709 or FRC@wwcsd.net. Our FRC also has a Digital Request for Services Form, which can be used to request assistance by filling out a simple form. Please contact the Family Resource Center directly with any additional questions regarding their services.
Mental Health Support
Care Solace is a complimentary and confidential service provided by Wayne-Westland Community Schools. This is a free service to students, families and staff. Care Solace helps connect individuals to mental health or substance abuse providers. They will call providers, verify insurance and help to make appointments. Contact Care Solace by calling 888-515-0595 or visiting caresolace.com/wwcsdand click “Book Appointment.” Support is available 24 hours a day 365 day a year in any language.
