A Note from Your Principals
Does My Child Need a Doctor's Note?
We've had a number of families ask about the need for a doctor's note when a child misses school due to illness. While a doctor's note is always helpful documentation, it is not required until your child's 10th absence.
All students are allowed 9 absences that are "excused" without documentation required. For the 10th day, and any following, absences are only considered "excused" for the following reasons, and most require "Level 2" documentation:
a. Student illness (verified by an appropriately licensed medical professional)
b. Religious obligations
c. Mandated court appearances (documentation required)
d. Funeral or death in the family, or other emergency beyond the control of the student's family
e. Extraordinary education opportunities pre-approved by the building principal in accordance with Connecticut State Department of Education Guidance
f. Lack of transportation
This additional documentation is necessary; otherwise absences will be considered "unexcused" and a student may then be considered "truant". Truancy is defined as a student who has has 4 unexcused absences from school in one month (30 consecutive calendar days) or 10 unexcused absences in one school year. Based on state statues, if a student becomes truant, we are required to have a meeting with parents/guardians within 10 school days in order to collaboratively design an attendance intervention.
Thank you for everything you are doing to ensure your child attends school on a regular basis. Our partnership is having a positive impact!
Student Spirit Days
Based on feedback from our students, the Ambassadors are planning a special student spirit day each month.
For the month of November, we are inviting our students to DRESS LIKE A TEACHER! They can choose to dress like their current teacher, former teacher, or a favorite teacher.
We can't wait to see all of the mini-versions of our staff members!
Volunteers Needed
Attention volunteers still needed for the holiday fair!
With the holiday fair only two and a half weeks away we are looking for more volunteers to help set up the fair on Thursday night, and lots of wrappers are needed on Friday all throughout the day. This is a great opportunity for parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles and other loved ones to get involved as well. Just make sure that each volunteer has filled out the volunteer form at the bottom of this newsletter and signs in with the office when they arrive.
We have 28 vendors this year and it is sure to be an amazing time for all! Thank you!

Ivy and Her Rose Bud
When Ivy visited us last Friday, we were THRILLED to find out a second Ivy book was being released this Spring!! This second story focuses on Ivy and her sister Rosie, who we learned about during the visit. Rosie "kisses" Ivy's back legs every morning and hasn't missed a day!
If you are interested in being one of the first pre-orders, check out the link below. Ivy's mom has even graciously agreed to come back and share the story with us LIVE and in-person once it's officially released!
