Please do not pick up your student at the district office. This is not a designated pick up location and there is not a student crosswalk. We appreciate your cooperation.
Parking at BHS
Reminder! Students with school-issued parking passes are the only ones allowed to park on campus. Students who are found to be violating the parking policy (link here) are at risk of losing parking privileges for the next academic school year. Also, students are to park in either the Hart Rd. lot or the stadium. If they park in staff parking they are subject to a ticket from the Barrington Police Department. Thank you for your cooperation.
Barrington High School is proud to participate in the Illinois State Seal of Biliteracy Program. Students may receive the Seal of Biliteracy or the Commendation toward Biliteracy upon demonstrating proficiency in English and another world language. Testing to prove proficiency will be offered to juniors and seniors during the week of March 4-8. Students who are enrolled in a level 5 honors or AP class in any language are eligible to test, but they must register by filling out the registration form. Note that we will NOT be testing students during their language classes; we will be offering an in-school field trip experience instead. Students who speak other languages at home, such as Korean, Polish, or Mandarin, are also invited to register for the tests. Further information about the state requirements for the Seal and the Commendation is available on our website here. If you have questions regarding testing procedures, contact Dr. Kathryn B. Wolfkiel at kwolfkiel@barrington220.org. The registration form will be available until February 23, 2024.

Spirit Week
We will be celebrating "We Love BHS" week 2/12 - 2/15! During this week we will be celebrating the many reasons why we love BHS through themed spirit days and activities. Please encourage your students to dress up for Pajama Day on Monday, Athletics & Activities day on Tuesday, Twin Day on Wednesday, and Class Colors Day on Thursday! Students will also have the opportunity to participate in themed activities such as Barrington Trivia, a "best-dressed" contest, and a school-wide Rock-Paper-Scissors tournament! The week will culminate with our winter recognition assembly. Please see the attached poster for more information.
BHS JUNIORS - OPTIONAL SAT PREP
On April 23rd, Juniors will be taking the SAT at Barrington High School. Students are familiar with the digital format after completing the digital NMSQT/PSAT this past October. For students or families looking for additional prep we recommend that students use the free resources available from College Board and Khan Academy.
In addition, many private companies offer fee-based test prep programs. There are a large variety of options that families can look into on their own, one such program is offered by Academic Tutoring & Test Prep. They will be offering an ONLINE prep program in the evenings for 6 weeks leading up to the April SAT, These online classes are open only to BHS students. More info can be found in this Flier.
This winter, BHS students will have an opportunity to participate in the eleventh annual statewide Illinois 5Essentials Survey. This survey is designed to generate a detailed picture of the inner workings of your child’s school. Please click the link below for more information.
IL Youth Survey
The Illinois Youth Survey is designed for all BHS students. Our school plans to give this survey on Tuesday, February 13, 2024. For more information, please click the link below.
Black History Month
The story of Black History Month begins in 1915, half a century after the Thirteenth Amendment abolished slavery in the United States.
That September, the Harvard-trained historian Carter G. Woodson and the prominent minister Jesse E. Moorland founded the Association for the Study of Negro Life and History (ASNLH), an organization dedicated to researching and promoting achievements by Black Americans and other peoples of African descent.
Known today as the Association for the Study of African American Life and History (ASALH), the group sponsored a national Negro History week in 1926, choosing the second week of February to coincide with the birthdays of Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass. The event inspired schools and communities nationwide to organize local celebrations, establish history clubs and host performances and lectures.

PTO Dues
Your Barrington High School PTO plans and financially supports many incredible programs and BHS traditions that impact ALL students at all grade levels.
If you haven't done so already, please take a minute to pay your dues to help ensure the continued success of the many things that we support at your child's school. We ask for your help so we can finish out the year by continuing to provide these upcoming programs and experiences to the Barrington High School community.
Please pay dues HERE ($30/student). If you have paid your dues, thank you so much!
If you would prefer to direct a donation to a specific program that the PTO sponsors, whether or not you have already paid your PTO dues, please use the link HERE to donate funds that will be used specifically for your designated program. You can also make a directed donation towards any of the following programs:
The BHS PTO provides snacks for ALL students taking AP & ACCESS exams with both gluten-free and dairy-free options available, as well as bottles of water. During the exams, students may not have anything in the room with them - no bags, no phones, etc. The students have a single, short break halfway through the exam, where they can get something to eat and drink. Students, quite simply, do not have time to search out other options, so PTO volunteers bring a cart with snacks to each test.
Every year, the PTO supports senior celebration events with both funds and volunteers. We would love to have you help us with this. All funds donate
d are earmarked for senior events, like Decision Day and the boat cruise.
Staff Appreciation Events: Every year, the PTO provides lunch for staff during Staff Appreciation Week in May, as well as an ice cream social. Staff are always so appreciative any time they get recognized. Can you help support this effort by sponsoring a teacher meal? We would love any donation you can put towards the special events we create for the wonderful staff.
Is this donation tax deductible? Yes! The Barrington High School PTO is a tax exempt 501(c)3 organization. For any donations you make, you will receive an email receipt for your donation to use for tax purposes.
Thank you!

Announcing Staff Grant Recipients!
The BHS PTO received 20 staff applications this year! We were able to award ten grants, totaling almost $7,000. These projects allow teachers to offer additional educational opportunities to their students that would otherwise be beyond their classroom budgets. Projects that were not awarded in this cycle were forwarded to other local organizations for possible funding.
PTO Staff Grant Spotlight!
BHS Biotechnology Equipment
Science teachers Colleen Zenner and Mary Scotillo requested and were granted $1,000 to purchase adjustable volume micropipettes. These will be used for hands-on comprehensive Biotechnology labs as students work with molecular biology reagents and analyze DNA and genes.
Physics Learning Lab Equipment
Science teacher Damian Simmons requested and was granted $1,000 to purchase Starter Equipment to help replace the previous Physics Learning Lab, which was previously outside and outdated. This equipment will be used inside the classroom and will allow students to continue to do the hands-on labs previous students have been able to do.
See Something, Say Something
The safety of our students and staff is always our top priority and we commit to offering a safe
and secure educational environment. Barrington 220 is now partnering with an Illinois school safety helpline aimed at providing students a place to report information that might prevent bullying, suicide, and campus violence. Safe2Help is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It allows students to confidentially share school safety issues via a mobile app, text, email, or phone call. You will notice that the "See Something, Say Something" button on our district and school website now links directly to the Safe2Help contact page. We are asking that all students, parents, staff, and community members now use this platform to report safety concerns. In the case of an emergency, call 911.BARRINGTON HIGH SCHOOL
