Book Fair
Book Fair
Tuesday November 19, 4:00 - 7:30pm
Our second Communication Night is coming Tuesday, November 19. The book fair will be open from 4:00 - 7:30pm. This is a great opportunity to purchase books that build a love of reading while also supporting our school library.
Gingerbread Houses
Although it’s still several weeks away, we want families to know that all Snail Lake students will get the opportunity to decorate their very own “Gingerbread House” with a guest this winter! On December 17, 18, or 19, your student’s class will go down to the cafeteria at 2:30pm with all the materials to decorate their own gingerbread house (technically made with a rinsed out milk carton, white frosting, graham crackers, and a variety of candies)! Students will not be eating these items and we will provide safe options for students with medically documented allergies. We ask that each student bring their own can of white frosting and each student can invite one adult! Teachers have emailed out more detailed information. If your family needs assistance with purchasing the can of frosting, please contact our Dean of Students, Lisa Strickland, at 651-6218020 or by emailing her at lisa.strickland@mvpschools.org.
Early Childhood Clothing Drive
The weather is changing and winter is practically here. You can help share warmth with people in need in our school community! Mounds View Early Childhood will be holding a Coat and Winter Gear Drive, collecting items between the weeks of November 18th-22nd and December 2nd-6th.
Here is how you can help:
Donate gently used or new 3T, 4T, 5T, 6T, Youth Extra Small or Small winter coats, snow pants, and waterproof gloves or mittens. All items should be freshly washed, gently worn, or new. Please no holes, stains, or broken zippers. Items can be dropped off at the Snail Lake Office between November 18th-22nd and December 2nd-6th.
All coats collected will be distributed to families within our school community. If you are a family in need of winter gear this year for your child, please reach out to our dean, Lisa Strickland at 651-621-8020 or lisa.strickland@moundsviewschools.org.
Thank you for your support and generosity in helping us share warmth with children in need!
Turtle Lake Culture & Heritage Night
We had a fun International Night at Turtle Lake last May, so we are bringing it back as Culture & Heritage Night on January 10!
This is a family-friendly event meant to celebrate our community's diverse experiences and backgrounds. Right now, we are looking for families from our community to host a table representing their culture, ethnicity, nationality, or heritage. Table hosts do not need to know the details of their display at the time of signing up, we will contact you in December to solidify plans. Performances of music, dance, or other traditions are also welcome.
Use this form to sign up to host. Please respond by November 22.
Hosting Deadline: November 22, 2024
Event: January 10, 2025 6-7:30pm
How to Host: Follow this link for the Host Interest Form. Please respond by November 22
More details about the event are on our Culture & Heritage Night webpage. Everyone is welcome to attend the event in January!
Connection with a Piano Tuner?
If you or someone you know has a connection with a piano tuner who will donate their time, let the front office know! We would like to get an upright Yamaha piano tuned over Thanksgiving break if at all possible. This piano is stored in a closet at Snail Lake and is used for a winter sing-a-long before winter break. Call the front office at 651-621-8000 with any information!
Box Tops for Education
Snail Lake Kindergarten Center participates in Box Tops for Education. We would appreciate your support in earning funds for our school.
To get started:
- Download the app from your app store
- Complete Set Up and begin scanning receipts
It's a quick and easy way to help support our school!
In addition, this month's Box Tops monthly challenge asks participants to link their Wal-Mart account. Everyone who connects their accounts for the first time, now through 11/30, will earn 50 Bonus Box Tops ($5) for our school. We really appreciate your support!

The Mounds View Schools Education Foundation is participating in this year's Give to the Max Day on November 21. Learn more at https://mvsef.org.
Give to the Max Day
Early giving for Give to the Max is happening NOW and continues through Give to the Max Day on Nov. 21. Consider donating to the Mounds View Schools Education Foundation, a local nonprofit whose mission is simply to support all MVPS students. We accept donations from individuals, donor advised funds, corporate matches and donations via checks. Donate here to elevate our student's access to excellence.
This year, the School Board is asking the community to provide feedback regarding student use of cellphones in schools. Nearly 4,000 people shared their thoughts in an online survey, and about 200 people attended community conversations. Survey results and themes from the conversations will be shared with the community in the coming weeks. This feedback also will be shared with an advisory committee of parents, students and staff for their review. The group will identify themes found in the responses and provide recommendations to the School Board. The feedback and recommendations will ultimately be used to help inform the creation of a cell phone policy. Learn more at mvpschools.org/cellphones.
News from the Library
It is almost Thanksgiving break! Next week all students will borrow two books from the library to read over break. Please make sure both books are returned when school resumes.

Kowalski's Groceries for Good Causes
Snail Lake Kindergarten Center is a participant in the Groceries for Good Causes program at the Kowalskis in Shoreview. The Groceries for Good Causes program allows shoppers to choose which neighborhood organizations matter most to them. Simply drop your grocery receipt in one of the bins to "vote" for the organization you'd like to support, and Kowalski's will donate a percentage of their quarterly charitable giving budget based on the number of receipts in each box.
