Dear Winthrop Families,
I hope you had a wonderful Veterans Day weekend and took time to reflect on the sacrifices made by those who have served our country. I am deeply honored to share with you the heartwarming success of our Veterans Drive of Honor, a project that beautifully exemplifies the spirit of CAREβour school theme this year.
A heartfelt thank you to all the families who contributed pictures and tributes to this special display. The response was overwhelming, and it was truly moving to see the pride and gratitude that each submission carried. We are especially grateful to Mrs. Murray and our dedicated Early Act SLC students for their hard work in bringing the display to life. Their efforts transformed the connector into a vibrant tribute to our veterans that touched everyone who saw it.
On Monday, members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1093 visited the display after their ceremony, and we were thrilled to see them take in the beautiful sight created by our students and families. It was a poignant moment that reminded us all of the deep connection between our community and the sacrifices made by those who serve.
A special shout-out to Campbell Thompson, our 5th-grade videographer, for capturing the entire process in a moving video, with guidance from Jon Stafford. The video beautifully showcased the spirit of the project and will serve as a lasting memory of how we came together to honor our veterans.
Thank you to everyone who participated in this special project. Your involvement helped make this Veterans Day celebration a memorable and impactful event. We hope that the Veterans Drive of Honor has served as a reminder of the importance of CAREβa theme that encourages us to show kindness, gratitude, and respect for those who have given so much for us.
With gratitude,
Amy

North American Birds of Prey Wingmasters with Jim Parks and Julie Collier
Many of you have attended Wingmasters programs here before, but this year Julie Collier will present along with Jim Parks!
Birds of prey are also known as raptors, and they are hunting birds characterized by hooked beaks and powerful grabbing feet armed with sharp talons (the word raptor comes from a Latin word that means "to seize"). Raptors can also boast the best eyesight and the sharpest hearing in the animal kingdom. Raptors include hawks, falcons and owls, and this presentation, which incorporates 5 live birds of prey, all native to New England, gives an overview of these different categories. The program is designed to explain predation, the birds' place at the top of the food web, their different hunting adaptations and their status in a rapidly changing world. Because many birds of prey are declining in number, this presentation also features one or more of the endangered raptors that WINGMASTERS cares for, and explains why these species face an uncertain future.
For families with children grades 1 through grade 7! Children under 8 must be attended by an adult caregiver.
