CPS Superintendent's Update
PERSEVERANCE * RESPECT * INTEGRITY * DEDICATION * EMPATHY
Superintendent's Update - 5.17.2024
Dear CPS Community,
We are heading into the home stretch with only three and half weeks remaining in the school year – unless of course you are a CHS senior and are graduating in two weeks. As you mark your calendars for upcoming events, I would like to highlight a significant milestone for CHS seniors. Today is the last instructional day for CHS seniors. On June 1st, the CHS Class of 2024 will cross the stage at Tsongas Arena as the 107th graduation class. The end of the school year typically marks the completion of the academic year and the start of summer break, however for these students, graduation will mark the completion of their secondary education and signifies their readiness to move on to the next phase of life, whether it is entering college, starting a job, or pursuing other post-secondary options. This time of year brings a mix of excitement and a hint of nostalgia as students reflect on the memories, cherished friendships forged, and the knowledge gained throughout their years in Chelmsford Public Schools. Preparations are underway for their graduation ceremony, and we look forward to the speeches and presentation of diplomas that will celebrate all their achievements. This celebration is a time for students, families, and educators to come together and recognize the hard work and dedication that led to this important achievement. Please join me in wishing our seniors “good luck” during their finals next week, and I hope they enjoy their senior week of events leading up to graduation.
These past few weeks have been a whirlwind with concerts, award ceremonies, and school sponsored events that collectively culminate the end of another school year. There is a palpable buzz of energy in the air. Students are bustling around, trying to wrap up final projects, complete last-minute assignments, and prepare for exams. Amidst all the busyness are also moments of celebration. End-of-year parties, award ceremonies, and more to fill the calendar, providing opportunities for students and faculty alike to come together and commemorate the year's achievements. There are even more events to come in the next few weeks as the end of the school year rapidly approaches. Although it is a busy time of year, I hope you attend as many events as your schedule will allow. I would like to thank the many students, staff, and volunteers that have worked hard to make these events possible.
Congratulations are in order to the McCarthy Middle School students and their coaches as the 2024 winners of the Kathryn P. Stoklosa Regional Knowledge Bowl. The Regional Knowledge Bowl was established in 1988 for the purpose of engaging students at the middle school level to participate in a challenging academic competition. School teams from neighboring communities work with coaches who prepare students for this competition. Up until the competition begins, teams review and practice questions in English Language Arts, Mathematics, Social Studies, Science, the Arts and Current Events. Please see more information about our student participants below. Chelmsford has won the Regional Knowledge Bowl two years in a row – that is quite an accomplishment. Congratulations!
Please enjoy this week’s newsletter highlights and enjoy your weekend.
Yours truly,
Jay Lang, Ed.D.

Syrian children receive portraits from Chelmsford High students
Chelmsford High School art students recently participated in an initiative connecting them with Syrian children through artwork. This was facilitated by The Memory Project, a nonprofit organization in which art students create portraits for disadvantaged, neglected, or orphaned children and teens around the world. Chelmsford High School art teacher Allison Gover engaged her Studio 3, Honors Art Portfolio and AP art students in the project. Each art student received their own photograph of a Syrian child to sketch, and the Memory Project Organization presented the portraits to the Syrian children as gifts. Ms. Gover’s art students are proud to have been able to share in this unique project and make connections with students across the world.

Family School Feedback
CPS Family Survey Information
Dear Chelmsford Families,
Our district values your feedback! We are currently surveying The Chelmsford Public Schools families in order to gain insight into your perception of our school and district's effectiveness. We also want to better understand barriers to families accessing our schools and programs. To ensure we continue to provide high quality, rigorous learning experiences that meet the needs of our learners and prepare them for college and career, we need your feedback. We want to know what you think.
To administer these surveys, we have partnered with Panorama Education to conduct our 2024 Family Survey as we did in 2023 as well. Panorama safeguards your privacy, keeping your responses anonymous. The survey shouldn’t take more than a few minutes to complete and will be a valuable source of information for us as we work to make our schools and district as good as they can be.
You may complete the survey online between Wednesday May 8th until Friday June 14th using a computer, tablet, or smartphone by using this Family Survey Link.
If you have multiple CPS school-aged children, please feel free to fill out multiple surveys to represent each individual child’s experience. The first question on the survey will be a dropdown to select which school you are filling the survey out for.
We thank you in advance for your thoughtful responses. If you have any questions about the survey administration, please don’t hesitate to contact your building Principal.
Thank you in advance for your time and look forward to your feedback.
