Read Across America Week was a huge success!
On Thursday, March 6 we will celebrate our version of Read Across America Week with Read Across Drew! Our high school book buddies and some of our 5th graders will read diverse books to our lower grades. Read Across Drew was a huge success! We featured our very own Mrs. Lauren Myers and Dr. Kendrick Myers' book, Sugar Goes To School. Our 5th graders read the book to our PreK students, and our Book Buddies read the book to our KDG and 1st grade classes! We had an amazing day and Mrs. Myers joined in the fun and met with the Prek classes!
Congratulations to our Top Readers for February
Let's Celebrate Women's History Month
March is Women’s History Month which is a focus on the contributions women have made towards society, culture and history. Its principles focus on celebrating women's achievements and the remarkable contributions of generations of women leaders & and girls everywhere!
The 2025 theme is ‘Moving Forward Together,” spotlighting “women educating and inspiring generations.” This theme is meant to highlight and support women who have dedicated their lives to education, mentorship and leadership to shape the minds and futures of all generations.
But where did it all start?
It began with a single day. International Women’s Day started in 1911 as a worldwide recognition of women's economic, political, and social contributions. Women’s History Month originated in 1978 from a weeklong celebration in a Sonoma, California school district, highlighting women's contributions to culture, history, and society. In 1980, President Jimmy Carter proclaimed the week of March 8th as National Women’s History Week. The U.S. Congress took it a step further in 1981, passing a resolution to establish a national celebration. Six years after that, the National Women’s History Project successfully petitioned Congress to make it the whole month of March, according to History.com
