Golden Eagle News
Our Golden Weekly Communication from the Nest
Week of December 16, 2024
'Twas the week before Winter Break, when all through the school, Not a creature was stirring, not even a student... Well that is not the case here at Golden! We have a very busy week full of learning, joy, and all things Golden!
We kick the week off with our annual holiday spirit week! Details are listed below, and this is a fun (and fairly simple) dress up each day this week! In addition we have our kindergarten performance, first grade gingerbread day, Grinch Day in fifth grade, and so much more! And let's not forget students in first through fifth grade have a district writing test this week on top of classroom holiday parties on Friday!
On Monday we will be doing a Shelter in Place drill. This is a very mild drill, and it is not intended to scare or alarm any students. Please know that we are very age appropriate - this is only a raised level of alert. Doors will remain locked as teachers continue teaching. Mrs. Dempsey and I will walk around to make sure all students are inside. That is the extent of it!
Don't forget to order your spirit wear this week! The online store closes on Friday!
On behalf of all our Golden staff, we wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy Holidays! Our next Golden Eagle News will resume January 5th! See you all in 2025!
Thank you always for your support,
Kristin McDonald

PYLUSD Artworks - Poster Contest
We have a great opportunity for your students to show off all of their artistic skills and creativity. The district and the Reach Foundation are sponsoring a poster contest with the theme of Endangered Species/Nature Conservation. The first place winner's art will be displayed throughout the district on posters announcing this year's district art show which will be held at the Nixon Museum March 31 through April 28. Don't forget to start putting aside some of your students' artwork that you would like to submit for the show. We will curate art from your entries to be showcased at the library. More information about the district art show will be provided in the new year.
The link below is to a flyer that provides all of the information for the poster contest. Please print out a copy to display in your classroom and let all of your students know about the contest. The deadline to submit entries is January 31. The link can also be emailed to students for them to have direct access to the information. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Aladdin Junior - Auditions This Week!
We are excited to present Aladdin Jr. this year for our school play! It is going to be a great show! Register your child now on www.goldenproductions.org
Golden Productions Update
Due to the overwhelming number of registrants (exceeding last year's total by over one hundred!!) and the length of our waitlist, we have decided to make a big change to ensure everyone can participate.
This year instead of having two casts, we will have THREE!
What this means:
- Every role will be played by three different students - A higher chance of getting a lead role!
- Instead of having 128 kids in each cast, we will have about 90 kids in each cast.
- We will be able to guarantee every family can get at least six tickets to watch their kid(s) perform and ticket sales hopefully won't be as competitive.
- Each cast will have a tech rehearsal, a dress rehearsal, and two performances (instead of three).
- The schedule at the theater will be different than what is shown on the parent info page on our website and we will update that and the calendar as soon as we have all the details nailed down.
Three casts is something that has never been done before at Golden, but we feel that it is what is best this year to make sure that every performer gets the chance to truly shine on stage! Thank you in advance for your understanding!
Auditions:
We're looking forward to auditions next week! We will be posting an estimated dismissal schedule prior to auditions so you can have a better idea of when your child will be ready to be picked up. Please remember that you must come to the gate to pick up your child. We will not be walking children to their cars or releasing them without a parent/guardian there in person to collect them.
Enrollment for 2025-2026 School Year
New enrollment for the 2025-2026 school year will start on February 1, 2025.
School Choice Transfer request windows will be handled similar to last year, with grades 1-12 starting in January and grades TK & K starting in March. New students should enroll in their school of residence first and then apply for a choice transfer if desired. Please visit the Student Services website for more information.
