Message From the Assistant Principal
Dear Silver Firs Families,
We hope you are doing well and have plans to relax and spend time doing what you enjoy over spring break. Thank you to our parents and guardians for attending spring conferences. These sessions are important parent/teacher check-ins for the development of our students. If you missed your conference, we encourage you to reschedule it with your child’s teacher as soon as possible.
It’s almost that time of year again – state testing is right around the corner for our Silver Firs students in grades 3-5. You play an important part in helping your child give their best performance on this important assessment. As you know, teachers and staff at Silver Firs have been busy preparing and reinforcing the skills necessary for students to demonstrate their learning. Even though this assessment is a snapshot of their ability – it is important that your child has every advantage to do their very best. We don’t want to cause test anxiety, rather we want our students to be as prepared as possible. There are many ways to help your child put their best foot forward.
The Night before the test:
1) Make sure your child goes to bed on time, so that they are well-rested.
2) Keep your routine as normal as possible; upsetting natural routines may have a negative impact.
3) Be positive and confident in the fact that you know your child will do their best.
4) Plan ahead to avoid conflicts on the morning of test.
The Morning of the test:
1) Get up a few minutes early to avoid rushing and make sure your child arrives to school on time.
2) Have your child eat a nutritious breakfast. There is a strong correlation between eating breakfast and memory cognitive functioning.
3) Have your child dress comfortably.
4) Be positive and communicate that this is your child’s opportunity to showcase their growth and learning. The most important thing you, as a parent, can do is to build confidence about doing their very best.
After the test:
1) Talk to you child about their feelings about the test.
2) Discuss what was easy and what was hard; discuss what your child learned from the assessment.
3) Explain that performance on a test does not define him/her as a person. It is one opportunity to demonstrate learning and growth.
Below you will find the testing window. It is also viewable on the SFE webpage.
Thank you for your continued support and involvement in your child’s education.
In partnership,
Brent Radcliff, Assistant Principal

Hello SFE Families!
Join Natural Leaders
What is Natural Leaders?
They are parents from diverse backgrounds who connect schools with their communities, fostering family involvement in education. They build relationships, listen to families' insights, and unite families and schools to support student success.
Our next big event we are planning is Multicultural Night on May 28th. We want to invite any of our families that have either helped out or have attended our Natural Leaders events to be part of planning this fun evening. If you are interested in helping out and/or becoming part of the Natural Leaders group, please reach out to our Natural Leaders Staff Leads, Lizzy Sebring or Hiroko Nakajima, at silverfirsnl@everettsd.org or stop by the school to talk to one of them.
