In NOVEMBER the school focused on RESILIENCE and our Student(s) of the Month were chosen for demonstrating this trait during the month!
A WORD FROM PRINCIPAL WILSON
Dear Taylor Families,
I hope everyone enjoyed a restful Thanksgiving break filled with quality time with family and friends! The next few weeks will be packed with learning—let's make the most of them!
International Baccalaureate (IB) - PYP:
Our school has been in the initial stages of determining whether we would like to pursue International Baccalaureate (IB) as a framework for our learners in the coming years. Mt. Garfield Middle School is in their candidacy to become an IB school and PHS has been an IB school for many years. This could be a great opportunity to provide our families with a robust and aligned option from elementary through high school. Again, we are in the initial stages of learning more about IB and deciding if our staff would like to continue to pursue this as a framework of learning for our school. Please click HERE to read a basic overview of IB.
Monthly Theme - Resilience:
Our theme for December will be Resilience. Resilience means being able to handle tough times and bounce back when things don’t go as planned. It’s like being a rubber band—no matter how much you stretch it, it always goes back to its original shape.
At the end of December, classes will nominate a student who has shown resilience to be their student-of-the-month!
December Holiday Lunch:
We invite families to join your child in the cafeteria for our December Holiday Lunch on Thursday, December 19th. An adult lunch is $5.55 and a non-D51 Student lunch is $4.55. Taylor students are free. Please RSVP by returning the bottom form that went home in Thursday folders on November 21st. Please RSVP by Friday, December 6th. If you need another form, please ask the front office.
Olde-Fashioned Christmas:
We would love to see our Taylor Families at the Olde-Fashioned Christmas in downtown Palisade on Friday, December 6th. Our PTO will be selling hot chocolate and baked goods starting at 5:00pm to help keep you warm. Please swing by and grab a treat!
Thank you for your continued support and partnership. Let’s make December a month filled with learning, growth, and fun!
Respectfully,
Shawn Wilson
Taylor Principal
No Cough Drops
We wanted to remind families that students are not permitted to bring cough drops to school since they are considered medication. Peppermints are allowed and given out in the health office.
PTO Silent Auction
Be sure to visit the silent auction at go.rallyup.com/taylorpto and place your bid.
December Holiday Lunch
Make sure to send in your RSVP to join students for the holiday lunch on Dec. 19th. Lunch times that day are different than usual so be sure double check each grades timeslot.
Winter Spirit Week
Show some spirit before our winter break by dressing up!
Taylor Closet
We have received a generous donation to create a Taylor Closet that will provide apparel and hygiene products for our students. Please contact Mrs. Kuhn or Mrs. Steele if your family could benefit from this opportunity.
Clifton Elementary Toy Drive
There are drop off boxes in our front lobby if you would like to donate. Donations will be accepted through Dec. 13th.
COUNSELOR'S CORNER WITH MS. SERENITY
Coming back from a week off for Thanksgiving, I am counting my blessings and I hope you are too! Consciously saying out loud or journaling about what you are grateful for is scientifically proven to boost your mood and it works with kids too! Thank you all for sending your children to Taylor Elementary everyday so that we can learn and grow together!
In December, lessons with Ms. Serenity will focus on vital skills for life and learning. Kindergarteners and first graders will practice identifying feelings and learn about how and when to ask for help. Second and third graders are working on identifying feelings in themselves and others to help develop empathy. Fourth graders are practicing using assertive communication as we get ready for a unit on standing up to peer pressure and how to be an upstander, not a bystander. Our fifth grade lesson this month is all about making plans to solve real life problems.
We have two Calm Ninjas groups continuing into December to practice emotional regulation skills because calm brains learn best. If you are seeing your child struggle with managing their emotions, please reach out. If your child is experiencing grief due to the loss of a loved one or if the holiday season presents challenges for your family, please let us know. We want to do everything we can to help all Taylor students have a blessed holiday season.
