October 2024
Principal Message
What a fantastic start to the school year! It was wonderful to see so many of our families at our Back to School Night BBQ. This event truly embodies our commitment to fostering a sense of community, and we love having the opportunity to connect with each of you.
As we move into October, we are excited to continue our journey together in creating a positive and supportive learning environment for all our scholars. We firmly believe that a strong partnership between home and school is vital to student success. Together, we can nurture our students’ growth both academically and personally.
At Shady Cove School, we remain dedicated to providing a rigorous and engaging academic program. Our curriculum includes enriching opportunities in the Arts for all scholars and STEAM for our 3rd to 6th graders. We strive to equip our students with the skills and knowledge they need to thrive in school and in life.
We encourage you to stay engaged in your child’s education. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to your child’s teacher or the school office if you have any questions or concerns. We are here to support you and your child in every possible way.
Thank you for your continued partnership. We look forward to an amazing October filled with learning and growth!

OCTOBER CHARACTER TRAIT- RESPONSIBILITY
This month we are talking about Responsibility. One way to define Responsibility is “taking action and understanding the impact of our choices.” Taking action can mean doing the right thing or completing the tasks you have been assigned. Understanding the impact of our choices means that our actions matter. Positive and responsible actions can help people and irresponsible actions can hurt others.
Responsibility is 1 of 3 traits we will focus on throughout the year that helps students Be Strong.
Throughout the school, students will be developing skills like focusing, organizing, and goal-setting.
Here are some conversation starters you could use at home that support the teaching and learning about "Responsibility".
- Can you share or show what it means to be Responsible?
- What are strategies you can use to help you focus and practice being Responsible? (examples may be: Taking a deep breath and re-focus, ignore distractions, ask questions if you need help)
- Can you describe how to use organization to help you be more Responsible?
- When working organizing your time, tasks, and things (The 3T’s) how do you practice Responsibility?
Eagle Point High School Homecoming Parade
This year Shady Cove School will be participating in the EPHS Homecoming Parade on November 1 at 4:00. We will be lining up at 3:30 back by the high school baseball fields. Students are welcome to participate in the parade by walking with our school and wearing school colors. Parents are more than welcome to walk with us or stand on the sidelines and cheer us on. We will also have a small flatbed trailer that students will be making decorations for in their art class. If you would like to have your child participate in this event you would need to provide transportation to and from the event. We would love to have them participate with us. Please click this link to sign your child up.

- When dropping off/picking up you must go through the drop off line. Don’t park off to the side of the street or in a parking space and have your child walk to or from your car.
- Pull up to the furthest Drop off/Pick up Zone.
- There are 2 drop off and pick up locations (See table below for the drop off location of the classroom teacher.)

Bussing
Please be in contact with transportation (541-830-1245) if you have any questions about pickup or drop off times. Bus routes are also located on our district website under transportation.
iPad Protection Plan
iPad Protection Plan is $25 per student. It may be paid through ParentVue or by sending check or cash to school with your scholar. We highly recommend this insurance. You never know when an accident is going to happen. If you have not paid the insurance then you will be responsible for the cost to fix or replace the iPad.
IPad Protection is an annual fee. If you had the iPad Protection Plan for the 2023-24 school year it is still effective until September 3, 2024. During the 2024-2025 school year, EPSD9 will continue to offer an optional iPad Protection Plan to students and families. The annual iPad Protection Plan will be effective from September 3, 2024-September 2, 2025. The cost for the Protection Plan is $25.00. Without this Protection Plan, students will be responsible for all repair or replacement costs. If your student did not have the iPad Protection Plan for the 2023-24 school year, students will need to bring their iPad to the office to verify the condition of the iPad prior to acceptance of your Protection Plan payment. Please click on this link for more information on iPad Protection Plan.
Cell Phones
Students will not be able to use their cell phones or any other communicative devices, including but not limited to cell phones or smart watches. These items must be stored in backpacks, turned off or on silent, for the entirety of the school day. Students are not allowed to have phones or other communicative devices on their person at any point of time during the school day. This includes in their pockets or notebooks. The expectation is that all students will adhere to this rule.
Consequences for breaking this policy:
First offense - Phone taken for the day. Reteach and phone call home. The student can pick up their cell phone from the front office after school is released for the day.
Second offense - Phone taken for the day. Phone call home. The parent or guardian must be the one to pick up the cell phone from the front office after school is released for the day. One lunchtime detention.
Third offense - Phone taken for the day. Phone call home. The parent or guardian must be the one to pick up the cell phone from the front office after school is released for the day. Two lunch detentions. The cell phone will not be allowed on campus until there is a parent/guardian meeting. Repeat offenses will fall under the category of defiance.
Although students will not be able to use their cell phones during the school day, students will have access to a landline for emergencies. If you need to speak with your child during the school day, please call the office, and we will make sure you are able to communicate any important information with them.
