Prayer to St. Michael
Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle.
Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil;
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray;
And do thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host,
by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan
and all evil spirits who wander through the world for the ruin of souls.
Amen.
VOCATIONS AND VETERANS
To my Bruin Family,
This week was all about Vocations! Every year the LA Archdiocese celebrates Vocation Awareness Week. We were gifted with a virtual lesson for 3rd-8th grade delivered by a priest and religious sister in the archdiocese who gave us a virtual tour of the seminary and the convent and talked about their path to religious life. Fr. Daniel visited our classrooms to talk about his personal journey and to teach about vocations and our calling in life, whatever that may be. Students in K-8 are also entering submissions for the Vocations Poster Contest and the winners will be recognized at a special event in the new year.
We also had a special visit from some Veterans this week as we taught our student body about Veteran's Day and the why behind their day off on Monday.
There is plenty to see below...so, happy scrolling! Enjoy your long weekend!
Mr. Ryan Nearhoff

Blessing of the Bibles
Fr. Daniel took some time this week to bless the bibles of our 2nd graders who will be receiving their sacraments this year. He also dedicated sometime to talk about vocations as we celebrated Vocation Awareness Week.

CHILD SAFETY ๐จ
Did You Know?
November 9-10 || Appropriate forms of physical affection
Children, by nature, give and seek physical affection โ hugs, pats on the arm or leg, even kisses. It is the responsibility of adults to know what is and is not appropriate when it comes to responding to this need for physical affection. One tip to consider is the acronym PAN, meaning touch that is public, appropriate, and non-sexual. This could include high fives, side hugs, back pats, and other displays of affection that reaffirm an emotional connection without crossing the childโs personal boundaries. For more information, read the VIRTUSยฎ article โTouch (A Sensitive Subject)โ on lacatholics.org/did-you-know/.
November 16-17 || Strive to manifest trauma-informed sensitivity
What are some practical ways we can interact with others that are trauma-informed? We can be mindful of what we talk about and how, recognizing that certain topics can trigger a trauma memory. We can also take those topics seriously, refusing to participate in jokes or disrespectful comments. Another thing to consider is how we touch others, even casually or in a friendly manner โ we can never know how a well-intentioned hug or pat could be taken by someone who has suffered abuse or trauma. For more tips, read the VIRTUSยฎ article โBeing Trauma Informedโ on lacatholics.org/did-you-know/.

Philosophy
Supporting the belief that parents are the primary educators of their children, we as educators at St. Dorothy Catholic School, dedicate ourselves to partner with the parents in preparing children to become contributing members of the community. To achieve this, we provide holistic development in psychological, emotional, social and physical health, with an emphasis on academics, faith, and Christian service.
In collaboration with parents, we champion student achievement through the presentation, practice, and study of Catholic doctrine, a strong academic curriculum, multimedia and multi-cultural experiences, physical education, extracurricular programs, and the dedicated commitment of the teachers and staff.
