Family Conferences are Thursday March 17, 2022 1:00-7:00 PM. Students will be dismissed from school at 11:14. Each 10-min conference will be pre-scheduled via Google Calendar Appointment Scheduler. Caregivers will have the option of participating virtually or in person at a predetermined time

• The focus of each conference will be relationship building and encouraging engagement

• Each conference should consist of specific positive feedback & growth opportunities and a description about how the students build their skills in Speaking, Writing, Interacting, Reading, and Listening

• Secretaries will schedule conferences for you if you are not able to use the calendars below beginning March 14th by calling the office (920.663.9570).

The Washington Middle School Swim Team just finished up their swim season with the Middle School Invite held at Lincoln High School on February 19. The team was able to get 10 best time swims at the meet. The boys placed 2nd and the girls placed 5. The team combined came in 3rd place. During the course of the season, the team was able to break 2 school records. The relay team of Jonas Stachovak, Alex Haas, Micah Stachovak, and Nolan Lettenberger broke the 200 Medley Relay record as well as the 200 Free Relay record. Both records were previously held from 2013. Best of luck to Olivia DesArmo, Ben Abler, Alex Haas, Micah Stachovak, and Hamza Turajlic as they head to high school next year!

Spring into Action at the YMCA. A five-day program for teens to get together at the YMCA over Spring Break.

Teen Night at the YMCA will be offered on Tuesdays from 6:30- 7:45pm starting February 18th- April 17th.

Will again be hosting the Winter Read-A-Thon. The Read-A-Thon is an opportunity for learners - big and small. Here is the linked promotional video.

The state Forward Test is coming up for all middle schoolers. Students are currently learning test taking strategies to prepare for the test. All students will be testing April 12, 13, & 14th. 8th graders will test on April 19th. We will share more details as we approach the testing window.

Every school year, the Manitowoc Public School District Systems of Attendance (SOA) Team evaluates student attendance on a weekly basis, identifying students who are struggling to engage in school consistently. Manitowoc Public School District will be partnering again with the City of Manitowoc to engage students in learning by supporting high levels of attendance. Each week, various student reports will be evaluated in order to determine which students may be in need of additional support. Our ultimate goal is to increase student engagement and academic achievement by improving attendance. Students who have numerous (5 or more) unexcused absences will enter our SOA process. Students earn an unexcused absence when guardian permission or reason for the absence is not provided to the office.

• Lost and Found: Our lost and found table, located in the office, is overflowing again. We have lots of winter coats, hats and sweatshirts that are looking for their owner. Please ask your learner to come to the office and look for anything that they have lost.
• Lost Students: The purpose of school is learning. Learning happens in our classrooms Most students are already in the habit of being in class. Our students know that they must have the student planner signed by a teacher as their hall pass permission. For a few who are causing distraction by leaving without permission, we will be giving one warning, contacting families if the problem persists and issuing citations for loitering. To prevent students leaving class, our school resource officer, Sgt. Krock will be patrolling hallways on an increased frequency. Thank you for helping us focus on learning by inviting students to stay in class during learning time.
  
• Cell Phones- If students bring their cell phones to school, our policy is that cell phones need to be kept in student's locker for the duration of the day. If students do not follow this policy they will be asked to put their cell phone in their locker or the cell phone will be brought to the office. We are asking loved ones to remind students of this policy.
