Parking Alert: A Note From Ms. Berman, MSL π
Heads up, parents!
Weβre continuing our friendly competition with the construction workers from Washington International School. Theyβve been parking on Macomb at the back of the school all summer, so please be aware that parking may be challenging. Remember, "The early bird catches the worm." We just want you to be aware especially while dropping your student off at the back gate. Thanks in advance for your patience as we navigate this shared space.
Best,
Patricia Berman, MSL
The Eaton Morning Routine
Whether you are a new or returning Eaton family, welcome to the 2024-2025 school year! Here is some information to help you plan YOUR morning routine:
- No vehicle parking/standing is permitted at any time in front of the Main Entrance on Lowell St. (as marked by the cones). This is standard practice for school campuses and ensures quick access to the school for emergency vehicles, if necessary.
- Lowell St. is one-way westbound (from 33rd Pl. towards 34th St.) during morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up times. The eastbound lane is blocked off with cones. Please do not attempt to turn onto Lowell from 34th St. This pattern calms traffic considerably around the main entrance, making the area safer for pedestrians, cyclists, and our children.
- No parking is permitted on the west side (playground side) of 33rd Place until 8:50am. This area serves as our KISS & Go drop-off lane (more on that below).
- The easiest and fastest parking can be found:
On Macomb St. East of 33rd Pl. (in front of or across the street from the Washington International School)
- West side of Macomb Playground
- Thereβs some street parking on the south side of Woodley Rd. (facing east)
- Parking is extremely limited along Lowell St., 33rd Pl. and on Macomb St. adjacent to the school.
5. Walking and biking to school with your student is always encouraged. Students may enter the playground from the 33rd Pl. gate, the gate on 34th and Macomb St. as well as the main entrance on Lowell St.
How We Roll At Kiss & Go π
Kiss & Go was created to provide a safe, orderly, and efficient way for students who are driven to school to be dropped-off in the mornings (starting 8:15am). Kiss & Go is designed with the following goals in mind:
β₯ Students exit vehicles directly to the sidewalk (not in the middle of the street).
β₯ Students can get assistance in exiting their vehicle from a Kiss & Go volunteer (the driver does not need to park or get out of their vehicle).
β₯ Vehicles do not get caught up in gridlock traffic around the school while competing for limited parking spaces (streets around the school are clearer and calmer for pedestrians and cyclists).
β₯ Parents and guardians should keep in mind that Kiss & Go is most appropriate for those students who are first grade and older. Parents/guardians of pre-K and Kindergarten age students must allow time to park (if driving) and walk their students to main entrance of the building.
β₯ In the mornings, please do not park on the playground-side of 33rd Place β this is the Kiss & Go lane -- until 8:45am (Kiss & Go ends at 8:40am). Parking in the Kiss & Go drop-off lane blocks the flow of traffic and can cause the line of waiting vehicles to overflow onto Macomb St.
Β· Kiss & Go volunteers are happy to help grab gear from front/back seats or the trunk so that you can remain in your vehicle and keep the line moving. Just let us know how we can help!
Β· Please be mindful of thru traffic on 33rd and exit the Kiss & Go Lane with care.
Β· Students should always exit on the curb side of the street.
Β· For safety, please do not drop-off students in the middle of 33rd or Lowell.
β₯ Non-drivers who help students walk, bike and scooter to school: Keep doing what youβre doing! Stay safe by observing bike safety rules and crossing at intersections. When possible, cross 34th St. at Lowell or 34th and Macomb where there are Crossing Guards. Bike racks can be found in the Lowell St. courtyard or on the corner of Macomb and 34th St.
β₯ Please consider volunteering for Kiss & Go duty. For more info contact the main office 282-0103.
