Welcome:
CEO Note
We want to say a huge thank-you to everyone who joined us for our Berthoud Literary
Festival in September. We enjoyed putting this event together, and we know you all
enjoyed attending. Not many communities can say they hosted a full dozen authors in a
single weekend, so thank you for welcoming them and participating in the Literary
Festival events.
If you’ve got little ones at home, please scroll down to see the array of events that we’re
offering for kids this month. In addition to our three storytimes each week, you will find
information about Budding Artists, Fun-damentals of Play, What Makes a Bird a Bird?
(presented by Foothills Audubon) and a bunch more. If your little ones are no longer
quite so little, we’re hosting Code Club and teen’s Construct and Concoct this month as
well.
Yoga at the library? You bet! Yoga for kids and yoga for adults are both on the agenda
for October.
Happy fall, and we’ll see you soon!
Amie P.
Library CEO

Adult Events:
The Paradox of Horror: A Philosophy Reading Group with POPCO of CU Boulder
Why do people enjoy being frightened by horror movies (and haunted houses, scary novels, etc.) when most of us do NOT like being frightened by real life terrors?
There is a tendency to think that well-adjusted people do not seek out terrifying and disgusting situations. Yet people flock to see the latest horror movies, and the more immersive the better! What gives? This apparent paradox - the "paradox of horror" is a particular version of the so-called "paradox of tragedy," which has fascinated philosophers since ancient times.
We'll begin with two short videos that describe the puzzle and suggest some solutions. We'll then get some more psychological insight by reading a short online essay by Professor Mathias Clasen, director of the Recreational Fear Lab at Aarhus University in Denmark.
Join us on October 10th at 6PM for a non-spooky discussion about spooky stuff!
