Please remember that your Tier 2 students should be utilizing the RAZ Kids program during RTI Reading time. I'm able to track how much time they are spending and weak comprehension areas and respond via a messaging program to help them improve.
eLearning Update/Reminders
Our Schoology leaders will help us prep at our upcoming faculty meeting on Oct. 24th.
They will help us prepare for the practice weekend on October 26-27. Students will be given an assignment on Schoology that weekend. The purpose of the assignment is to ensure your students and parents can log in and access the assignment. It will be an opportunity for teachers to troubleshoot and ease the comfort level for parents for our eLearning day.
Parent night informational and help session will be scheduled soon for parents to come ask questions and troubleshoot any issues they may be experiencing with regard to Schoology. Date, place and time TBD.
You may begin to prepare assignments for the eLearning day so that they are ready to push out on Nov. 7th.
You can check out this document for more information.
Required Training for Certified Staff
As you all are aware, Indiana has legislated various pieces of required professional development for school staff. Many of these mandated topics require a certain type of training or have a certain time limit on how many minutes of training staff must receive. A few, like the pieces of training below, do not have these same time/location requirements and will allow us to provide flexibility to staff on when they are completed. In exchange for completing the requirements below, one faculty meeting will be taken off the calendar (an additional faculty meeting had already been canceled due to parent/teacher conferences). You are welcome to come in/stay at school on that regularly scheduled date and time or complete the training at other times as long as they are completed by November 7th.
Faculty Meetings on October 10th and November 7th are canceled. One meeting is canceled due to Parent/Teacher Conferences and the other is canceled in order to complete the training below.
By November 7th, please complete the following:
1. Homelessness/McKinney Vento
A. Please view the presentation linked here
B. If you have any additional questions, please contact Kelly Lacey (klacey@danville.k12.in.us)
2. Seizure Awareness
A. Please view the presentation linked here
B. If you have any additional questions, please contact Sandy Bumgardner (Head Nurse)(sbumgardner@danville.k12.in.us)
3. Once you have viewed the presentations and understand all components, please click here to sign off on your training. Remember to complete each step and sign off before the end of the day on November 7th.
News and Info from the IDOE
Want to have a voice about all of our required trainings???
The Indiana Department of Education (IDOE), at the request of the Interim Study Committee on Education, has been charged with surveying Indiana educators regarding how to do the following:
1) Eliminate, reduce, or streamline the number of training mandates placed on schools.
2) Streamline fiscal and compliance reporting to the General Assembly on a sustainable and systematic basis.
IDOE worked in collaboration with the Indiana Association of Public School Superintendents, the Indiana Association of School Principals, the Indiana State Teachers Association, the American Federation of Teachers - Indiana, and the Indiana School Board Association to create this survey. All school employees are encouraged to take this survey before October 11. The survey can be found here.
The Indiana Department of Education (IDOE) is joining a national initiative providing holiday greeting cards to US military troops around the world. Please read this letter from Dr. McCormick, encouraging Indiana schools to support this great program.
IDOE has created The Science of Happiness course, designed for educators to promote their own social-emotional wellness. Participants will earn 45 professional growth plan points after successfully completing the course. Please promote The Science of Happiness with educators in your district by sharing this short promotional video.
Find details about the technical requirements of the course for administrators and technology directors here. Enrollment information will be coming soon!
